I was wondering if they were up to something like this. Great news

TV Crazy - December 24, 2006 10:55 PM (GMT)
What do you think it could be about?

Bakhesh - December 29, 2006 05:39 PM (GMT)
I was going to say that I'd prefer them to do another earth based show, but it looks like that may not be an issue. Gateworld are saying that they are intending to keep making SG1 tv movies, for as long as people are interested.

Click

For the new series, I wouldn't be surprised if they set it on board one of their ships.

TV Crazy - January 3, 2007 11:46 AM (GMT)
I was thinking it might be on a ship. I read somewhere that they wanted to have Daniel as the main character in the new series. I think if SG-1 isn't going to continue then i don't think Daniel would work so well without them, it would spoil the end of SG-1, even if they are doing movies.

I guess we'll have to wait a while before we find out about a thirds series, i look forward to it as long as that doesn't mean cutting Atlantis short.

Third Stargate Show Developing?

Robert C. Cooper, executive producer of SCI FI Channel's Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, confirmed to SCI FI Wire that he's developing a third series with a working title Stargate Universe, but remained mum on details. (The project has not yet been picked up by any network, including SCI FI Channel.)

"It's being developed," Cooper said in an interview on the Vancouver, Canada, set of the two series. "Not a lot to say at the moment, other than it's ... not the characters from SG-1 or Atlantis. It's a completely third entity. The third series is born of the mythology that's been established."

SG-1 will draw to a close after 10 seasons with the episode titled "Unending," airing June 22. Atlantis, is currently finishing up its third season and will return with a fourth season later this year.

Cooper added that the proposed third series will take place in the present day. "One thing that we think contributes to the success of [all of] the series and the concept behind the series is that it takes place in the here and now. ... It's about us and our age of people dealing with fantastic things, like Stargates and wormholes and aliens. And then there's an identifiable quality to the people in the show. It's not like an antiseptic version of humanity sometime 500 years in the future. [SG-1's] Jack O'Neill [Richard Dean Anderson] was a guy who everybody could relate to, and his reactions to the more fantastic elements of the series were the reactions the average Joe on the street might have."

SG-1 and Atlantis executive producer Paul Mullie added: "It's all top secret."

Either that, added fellow executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, or "it just hasn't been written yet. I'm not sure which."

Yay, it's another season on Stargate Infinity :o :o  :weird: :x

I'm more surprised that the US still hasn't seen the finale

Have to say, I'm pinning my hopes on the new series to take the franchise forward. Atlantis appears to be coming apart at the seams with all the cast changes. They should have cancelled Atlantis and kept SG1 IMO.

jamiearmour - June 13, 2007 09:06 PM (GMT)
That would never have happened. The cast on Atlantis are still far cheaper than the cast of SG1.

Not unless they start shipping them across.....

And probably the one member of the SG1 cast that I really have seen enough of after 10 years as well

I can see what you mean, I'm not too happy with Carter moving over either plus the fact that Mckay really has the whole techie area covered although there could be some nice tension between the two.

Really Daniel Jackson should come over, the main character from the film and really in my view the protangonist of the SG-1 series (even though Jack may get more lines, screen time etc.) most of the plot arcs have involved Daniel Jackson specifically. Also he is different than Sam and McKay, he has a moral certainty and translation skills something which is lacking on Atlantis somewhat.

Saying that I still haven't seen series 9 and 10 so I can't comment on whether bringing Vala or Mitchell over would be anygood although Sheppard really has the whole supersoldier thing tied down so Mitchell probably wouldn't be suitable.

Crichton Kicks - June 14, 2007 05:15 PM (GMT)
Bringing Mitchell across would be pointless, sad to say, as he and Sheppard pretty much occupy the same function. Vala, to me, has always been superfluous without Jackson. Teal'c, is similar to Ronon, and for all intents and purposes, you're right, Carter simply serves the same purpose as McKay. I know they've changed her role for Atlantis, but still, at the expense of one of your established leading characters?

Not happy with these changes I have to say. Sounds like they're just trying to boost Atlantis' numbers the old fashioned, and sloppy way.

Exactly! Atlantis seriously struggled last season with the exception of a couple of good eps, I just can't see it going beyond a 4th :ermm:

TV Crazy - June 22, 2007 08:25 AM (GMT)
I though Atlantis S3 was really good, it had some great episodes in there, they could probably have used Teyla more than they did, but i liked the S3 cast.

Bringing Carter over is just trying to get those who didn't watch Atlantis, but watched SG-1 to move to Atlantis. Why should Carter get to run Atlantis, Weir wasn't doing that bad a job.

S4 definately won't be as good without two of the original cast, and will probably end up being the last season, which i don't really want to see, because when it started Atlantis was good enough to get at least 5 seasons and now they've gone and ruined it.
