Not only do we have The Runaway Bride to look forward to on Christmas day.

We also have...

On New Years Eve..

BBC Radio 7 will be broadcasting the first of a new series of audio adventures featuring the 8th Doctor Paul McGann. The stories will apparently tell the story leading directly up to his regeneration into Chris Eccleston.

The first story is entitled "Blood of the Daleks"

On New Years Day.

The Sarah Jane Adventures
Children's BBC ONE

Elisabeth Sladen – Doctor Who's former sidekick – is back as Sarah Jane Smith in a brand-new, fast-paced children's drama, created by Russell T Davies and from the makers of Doctor Who. The Sarah Jane Adventures ensures that children never look at fizzy drinks in the same way again...

Sarah Jane is fascinated by Bubbleshock, a strangely addictive organic drink that is taking the world by storm. She is almost oblivious to the arrival of her new neighbour, Maria, a young girl starting a new life with her father.

Maria becomes intrigued by the strange goings on at Sarah Jane's house but, before she can investigate, she's whisked away by her new friend, Kelsey, to the brightly coloured, but sinister, Bubbleshock factory.

As Sarah Jane tries to find out what the mysterious Mrs Wormwood is doing at the factory, Maria and Kelsey embark on a tour which leads them into the path of a monstrous creature and a strange young boy with no name or past.

When Sarah Jane and Maria discover the secret ingredient of Bubbleshock, they realise they are the only ones who can stop Mrs Wormwood and her evil plans for the human race.

Maria is played by Yasmin Page, Kelsey by Porsha Lawrence Mavour, Mrs Wormwood by Samantha Bond and the young boy/Luke by Thomas Knight.

Except they won't - someone from Big Finish has said that whoever wrote that got it totally wrong :) The new series of audio stories will just be set after McGann's current adventures with Big Finish (so without Charley and C'rizz), but obviously before the regeneration. However, there will be nothing leading up to the regeneration (and certainly no Eccleston) in this radio series.

And I'm not convinced with the Sarah Jane Adventures - given they can't use K9 (aside from in the pilot) I think they made a big mistake aiming it for children. While us fans (mostly) love Sarah, I can see why a series about her makes sense.
However, for the children who this is aimed at, the star of School Reunion was a certain tin dog, and there was some woman with him who the Doctor knew. For people bought up on the new series, Sarah is about as special as Reinette or Chloe Webber. When are we going to see the Exciting Adventures of Queen Victoria, or Casualty: New New (etc) Earth?
And while I know Sarah never travelled with K9, and in the old series they spent one TV Special and 30 seconds on The Five Doctors together, to the new fans Sarah and K9 go together. They were together in School Reunion, and all the publicity aimed at the children had Sarah and K9 together as a team (Blue Peter, I'm looking at you here).
Had they aimed a series about Sarah to an older market, to the fans who remember Sarah (something Midsomer Murders-esque), then I think it would be much more successful than a kids series about a woman in her mid-50's and her teenage sidekicks.
I wish it well, but I don't think it will be as successful as they would like it to be.
