an ok episode
we learn a little more about jack past (the war(s), love,....)
not sure about the bad/good/ugly/deadly "fairies" :ponder:
jack way of "solving" the problem: let the kid go (but did he really have a choice?)
:o @ the photo at the end

I thought it was a very good episode, which delved a bit into Jacks past and took what is thought to be a very innocent and nice mythical creature and turned them into a more adult and evil creature, and certain criticisms that have been made in the past about the show have been put to rest. This episode was shot mainly during the day time, and was not based at the Millenium Centre and next weeks one looks to be set in Wales vast countryside.
I like the way they are going, sometimes having to concede to the enemies for instance The Doctor would have have the ability to save the little girl and would have whereas Jack and Torchwood can't always defeat the enemy and therefore must make a comprimise.
I'm liking it more and more as the weeks go on and I was very sceptical about the show to begin with, but its definately not as bad as some people seem claim. Its a totally fine show, and I think its getting better and we are growing towards something here, each week we learn a bit more about Jack and he is the main character and as is Gwen to some degree, the rest of the cast are supporting artistes, and therefore yes will not get much of a look in, but will here and there, thats another criticism which is not well founded, which is the fact Ianto isn't given much to do and yes this episode I agree, but he is a supporting character and some episodes like last weeks Cyberwoman will have more of a role than say Toshiko who seemed to get more of a look in this week with the weather patterns and the death of the pervert. The week before Owen got a bigger part, hunting down the murderer of the flash-back he encountered. So with 45 minutes each week its impossible to use every character to a great degree but some episodes have let them shine more than others.

I enjoyed this episode. I agree with Dan... Torchwood is far from being as bad as some would have it. I think it's good fun and very entertaining.
A good episode this one, dipping into the darker side of our folk tales and fairy stories. It touched a little on Irish mythology and some of the ground James Herbert has explored in a couple of the books of his that I've read.
I'm enjoying the slow release of information about Jack... that's fun, and I found the scenes between Jack and Estelle very touching. (And Estelle was the most convincing corpse I've seen in a long time!)
The girl who played Jasmine wasn't quite freaky enough for my liking, but she did a reasonable enough job. And I'm with Claire, I enjoyed the epilogue scene with the fairy photograph in the Lab!
I liked the idea of Jack having to make the compromise too... that's quite refreshing in tv.
Good stuff, and looking forward to the next episode already.

Much to my surprise I really liked this episode as the trailer and subject matter didn't seem that promising to me.
Liked the malevolent spin put on fairies and the ending and I liked the bit more we learnt about Jack. I was hoping they would move away from just aliens and investigate other X-files type stories myths, legends etc so I hope this is a sign of things to come. :)

the death of the pervert ....... well there was a reason
but the death of the new boyfriend of jasmine's mother: :ermm:  (death for a slap  )
jasmine lack of reaction or just happy to have her "friends" around :ermm: , until she actually speak with the weird voice, i thought jack and co had a chance to "save" her

Well these creatures wanted the girl and the boyfriend tried to split them apart by fencing up the garden, and also slapping the girl probably would have bugged them as well.
Also does anyone know where I can get a Captain Jack Style Military Long Coat? Been looking but can't find one anywhere.....

Really enjoyed this one as well.
The story itself was a variation on a fairly staple derivative. I'm sure we've seen something familiar on The X Files, but it didn't bother me much. It was still well handled.
The more Jack backstory we get the better. Barrowman's doing exceptionally well leading the series IMO.

I really enjoyed this episode.
I wonder how long Jack's been back on Earth, did the incident on the train happen after Rose revived him 'cause before he met the Doctor wasn't he meant to be a con man who didn't stay in any place or time for very long?
A glimpse at how Jack's willing to make sacrifices to serve the better good, but that doesn't mean that he's not affected by those decisions, the scene with the mother after he sacrifices the girl was quite moving.

I really enjoyed it. I half wanted Estelle do die so it wasn't a question of bad person deserves to good person is saved but on the other hand what was the motive for her death?
If it was just a cold hearted killing wouldn't Jack have been a little more conflicted in giving the girl to the fairies - maybe he saw the evil in her?
nice flashbacks too :D
