Wow :o

Despite a low-key start this is probably one of the best SG1 premieres there's been. The Goauld, the Asgard and the Replicators ??

Two components of the show that I've always enjoyed have been the everchanging political landscape, not just on Earth but amongst and between the other races, that, and the uber-badass ultra nemesis, the Replicators. On a par with the Borg, only not, thusfar at least, watered down the way that the Borg subsequently were.

The episode(s) works on a number of levels, as a story, as a continuation and as a bridge between SG1 and the upcoming Atlantis. Dr Weir features again, this time though Jessica Steen has been replaced and, surprisingly, IMO, for the better. Weir, here, is a much more determined, and tough character, whose negotiating skills actually work, rather than The Lost City where they weren't really given the opportunity.

The episode deals with the fallout of Anubis' demise, and whilst this hints at repitition, with one big bad's demise simply giving rise to another one to take their place, it still throws up a number of intruiging concepts, especially Weir's bluff of Earth effectively becoming a System Lord. It's an interesting jumping off point to a story (the Goauld thread) that I really thought had run out of mileage at the end of last season. It actually looks like the Goauld may be getting interesting again, but we'll have to wait and see on that front I think.

The other major thread was the continuation of the Asgard/Replicator story. The Replicators, the Human variants, were last seen virtually suspended in time. Needless to say that doesn't stay the case, and it's game on again as the Replicators take the battle to the Asgard again, looking to effectively make them extinct.

Goauld political intruige, the Replicators beating seven shades out of the Asgard, O'Neil's one-liners, it's the same old formula, but it works so well, even now, eight in it's 8th year down the line.

Next week sees the start of Atlantis, NEW ORDER has well whetted the appetite.

Blimey. That was good.

Shame about Teal'c's hair though (Krystal and I had to actually stop the video until we stopped laughing at it) - had I known it would have looked so bad I'd have told him when I met him at the beginning ofthe month :)

And the new season looks... interesting, to say the least!

You name-dropper you Phillip ;)

Season 8 does look interesting though doesn't it ?? Moreso than I really expected for a show going into it's 8th year now, it just gets better and better.

Atlantis tonight,
