I cannot help but make a few comments.

I am not sure Chosen warrants a top 10 position. The whole empowerment idea did have an element of cheese about even if Joss's heart was in the right place.

Do you really think Bargaining pt2 is better than pt1? Surely pt1 has all the funny lines?

Is Flooded really better than, say, Earshot(very harsh), Revelations(harsh) or The Replacement(harsh)?

91-96 feel a little hard done by. Do you not like the 'mystical' feel of Restless?

Considering it is S2 especially I feel Whats My Line(pt1 in particular) are close to classics. Do you feel they are sort of throwaway?

Where in the list do you start saying these are rubbish?(I guess 121?)

If I had to pick one episode where I think you are extremely harsh it has to be The Freshman. I agree with Max when she says it is top 10 material. Do you not find the Joss script very engaging? I feel it is brilliantly sassy and witty.

Your choices generally are compelling and are evidence of a deep affinity with the material. sk

I did mine too, some months back, and it's a difficult task. I found it easy to pick out a top 10/15 or whatever, and a handful to go at the bottom. But the remaining 100 ish episodes could be in any order really, depending on how I feel at any given time.

Maybe we should all do a top 144 and work out the definitive Cult TV Board 144! :lmao: I'll revise mine and repost... there are definately a few changes, especially after seeing most of season 4 now.

Do I detect a hint of prickliness here? Maybe. Maybe not. I think one of the differences between us must be that you are a lot more sympathetic to S6 than I am. This results in your list squeezing S2 somewhat it seems to me.

My list will be 'completely objective', of course, so no criticism could ever be valid. Slightly more seriously I find S7 hard to evaluate as it is so unified especially from Sleeper onwards. Your hint that Touched is a lot better than Empty Places I found totally compelling so I am amenable to subtle nudges. sk

Obviously I'm in a minority, but I actually quite like season 6. It's probably the weakest season of Buffy, but that doesn't make it bad in itself. My feeling is that season 2 has more out and out stinkers than season 6. Season 6 has 'Once More With Feeling' and 'Tabula Rasa', with 'Normal Again' a close third. Sure, you have the likes of 'Doublemeat Palace' (which has a few moments that almost redeem it), but the rest bubbles along at a decent pace. I think you either like the tone, or you don't. Give me season 6 of Buffy ahead of most other shows any time.

For me, season 6 works best as a sustained rewatch over a relatively short period of time, rather than the broadcast one episode per week. I like the idea that the real Big Bad in season 6 is/are ones own inner demons, and that's something I can identify with. Whether it works or not is debatable, and I doubt we'll ever agree on that one. All I can say is that, for me, it hits the mark at times where it misses for others.

I thought my list was totally objective too! ;) (I'll post it in a minute!) I'm with John on season 7 though, although in my case, I think it's due to not being as familiar as I am with all the others. I need a rewatch, I think!

As far as 'Bad Eggs' is concerned, well, harsh it may be, but I just don't like it very much. Unfortunately, one episode has to come bottom of the list, and that was the unlucky episode.

The ineffable genius of Buffy and Willow and their character development in S2 is hard to emphasise in a mechanical listing so I can see how you end up pushing in directions which seem to be at odds with one another.

i suppose the list of season is more about the story arc/big bad/.... and then doing the top 144 is a complete different thing because you take one episode out of the season and have to decide a "rank" :shrug:

I've very impressed with everyone who can do a top 144. :) I always meant to do one but never did and of course now I'm really not as familiar with every episode as I once was so I think it would be even harder to attempt now.

I started a top 144 ages ago, but i can't remember whether i finished it or not, it got very hard and i had to keep swapping them around. I'll have a look and do some rearranging, then let you know whether i agree with you.

How Doppelgangland isn't in everyone's top 10 i don't know.

I was amazed no-one mentioned Wrecked though someone mentioned the arc.

Especially with hindsight all the goofy epsiodes of S1 and S2 seem totally charming so his list feels a little unconvincing to me.(Teachers Pet and I Robot You Jane remain at large though)

I agree with the poster that Older And Far Away was pretty much just people standing around talking which was lame.

Beer Bad seems to be the other obvious choice he misses. Very dull rather than offensive with the benefit of hindsight. sk

Apart from the fact that the writer of this is anti-Xander, I prefer Claire's approach by many, many miles.

Hard to agree that anything is better than Passion though- except possibly Band candy, or possibly.....
