Well, just finished watching this and it was Super (pun intended)

One of, if not the, best Smallville ep in a long time :yahoo: And purely because Clark seemed to be taking a back seat in it :o

The Green Arrow character is taking over the show, and that, IMO is no bad thing. Mr Hartley is breathing new life into what was becoming a rather stale and same-y show.

They are really trying to set Ollie up as a psuedo stand in for Bruce, which is a nice touch, but they're still keeping the character's individuality (I noticed the Batmanesque music as he escaped up the lift shaft after theiving the necklace from Martha  )

All in all a fab episode, remarkably well underplayed by Tom Welling as he seemed to allow the centre stage to be taken by the superiour character.

It all bodes well for the future of this season.

Though, didn't Lana's turn to machiavellian mistress take you by surprise as much as it did me? She may have found a niche worth keeping her around for (maybe  )

I just watched a show that was called 'Smallville' but should have been called '"The Green Arrow"

Can't agree with you there, Jamie, there were at least two episodes last season that were better :snooty: :p

It was a terrific episode, though. I think the relationship between Clark and Oliver is going to be very interesting (<-- statement of the obvious, learning from James  :whistling: ). I love the way the series points Clark in his ultimate direction little by little, the last scene of this ep being a perfect example

Nice to see Lois proving that her inability to recognise a bloke in a costume didn't start with Superman

For me, the series is at it's best these days when Lois and Chloe are heavily involved, and this was no different. They both have the spark, Lois in particular, and I like the way Chloe is learning to read Clark.

They're keeping Lex's story ticking away in the background, and no doubt it will take centre stage later in the season, but at the moment that's just fine with me. After the less than stellar openings of the previous two seasons this, so far, has been a breath of fresh air.

I seriously hope, though, that they don't let The Green Arrow take over. If that's what they want then let him have his own show :snooty:

I noticed the music, too

I also wondered why Clark breaking into Oliver's secret room didn't set all manner of silent alarms and traps off. Not that Clark wouldn't have been able to break out, of course, but it seemed curious that nothing happened :ponder:

Also, it must be the first time in the series that something green hasn't had Clark writhing around on the floor in agony

They've tried that already, and it didn't w**k. Even with the inclusion of Justin Hartley, Aquaman just didn't swim (I can't believe I just typed that  ) They may be more careful with GA, let him hang around for a bit, and see if his popularity grows to a level that would warrant his own series.

Of course having seen the title (and synopsis) for ep 10 of this season, I'm hopeful for a different show getting the go ahead :D

To be fair, though, they didn't give Aquaman as big a role in Smallville as they are doing with The Green Arrow (Bandit  ) :)

It's fascinating and entertaining stuff at the moment. So long as they keep that up it'll be great

Have to agree with Steve. This episode was fantastic, but somewhat short of last season's Reckoning or Vessel.

That being said though, with the introduction of The Green Arrow and this season's obvious slant towards, well, I'm sure we all know where it's headed!, I have high hopes that season will improve upon the 'Coming of Zod' story from last year, which for me, didn't really w**k as well as it could have.

On the point of The Green Arrow getting his own spinoff, he might not necessarily need to. Wasn't Lois only originally slated to appear in 7/8 episodes? I think once the Justice League storyline is up and running it'll be kind of hard not to have him around.

The only downer in this episode for me was the Lex/Lana relationship. It's boring me now. IMO it's taking a lot away from the character of Lex. It was a decent enough plot device to generate an air of alienation around the Lex/Lana/Clark triangle, but it's served its purpose now. The best thing they could do here now would be to kill off Lana in a way in which both Lex and Clark think the other's responsible. I think that would pretty much push both characters to their ultimate position against each other.

When I said that last week you disagreed with me. Jeez, you're so fickle :snooty:

Yeah, as soon as I started tpying that I knew you'd pick up on it!

I've been hoping that Michael Rosembaum would start to exert himself again, like he has in previous seasons. I don't know what it is about this current Lex/Lana storyline but he just doesn't seem able to give it his best. The storyline's rapidly beginning to waste his talents, and Lex is becoming one of the weakest characters on the show.

Yeah, he looks like he doesn't believe in it so he's not giving it his all. That's one of the reasons I hope The Green Arrow doesn't take over, because Lex has definitely been sidelined as a result of that storyline :ponder:

I was interested that Lionel was trying to get in his good books again, especially when Lex pointed out how Lionel has been a goody-two-shoes trying to ingratiate himself with the Kents. Somehow I suspect Lionel is trying to play both sides against the middle, but I'm looking forward to seeing which side he falls on and exactly what Clark will do should it be on Lex's side :)

Crichton Kicks - October 22, 2006 12:05 PM (GMT)
Given Lex's storyline so far this year, I'm not too concerned with him being benched to a certain extent in favour of developing the Green Arrow story. To be fair though, looking forward. There's obviously chemistry there between Rosembaum and Hartley, so it'll be interesting to see them sparring. They're obviously competitive, and it'll make a nice change from Clark squaring off with Lex.

Lionel was in danger of being pidgeon-holed as one of the 'goodies' if they weren't careful. Glad to see that his latest actions have firmly entrenched him in the 'shades of grey' camp again

I'll be interested to see how the next couple of episodes do. I haven't been completely won over by the first 2/3 episodes of the season, but this latest one was fantastic, I hope they can maintain the momentum leading into midseason!

You're right James, the whole pace towards the Justice League is great, it will inevitably fail though, cos they haven't got a certain black kevlar wearing bat fetishist around

Which is a shame really. You get the impression that they've had the idea for introducing the Justice League for some time, possibly as far back as season two, when they were considering bringing in Bruce Wayne. Sadly, with the reinvigoration of the Batman movie franchise, it looks like they've taken the role that Batman/Bruce would have had, and given it to Green Arrow/McQueen.

I'll be interested to see if they bring in many more of the big guns though. Can't see Wonder Woman turning up either, with the movie in the pipeline.

jamiearmour - October 22, 2006 01:27 PM (GMT)
Well, who knows, what's to come :innocent: Maybe they'll get in some more minor leaguers

Can I suggest we have a spoilers thread so that you guys can discuss these things more freely :)
