Title: Dexter
Description: S1 US pace.....Spoilers!

I thought Dexter deserved his own thread ;)
Meet Dexter, a blood splatter analyst for Miami-Dade PD by day; serial killer by night.
Seriously! But he only kills other serial killers
Sounds weird, but it kinda works
Here's the blurb from the official site..........
| QUOTE |
Orphaned at the age of four and harboring a traumatic secret, Dexter is adopted by a Miami police officer who recognizes Dexter's homicidal tendencies and teaches his son to channel his gruesome passion for human vivisection in a "constructive" way—by killing only heinous criminals who have slipped through the cracks of justice. A respected member of the police force, a perfect gentleman with a soft spot for children, Dexter is hard not to like. Although his drive to kill is unflinching, he struggles to emulate normal emotions and to keep up appearances as a caring, socially-responsible human being. |
Pretty good cast too, with Michael C. Hall as the titular Dexter Morgan, and everybodies favourite (ex) vampire, Julie Benz as Rita Bennett, a mother of two who is slowly recovering from being raped by her brutal ex-husband and tentatively starting a relationship with Dexter, unaware of how he spends his free time  Throw in hardened cop Erik King as Sergeant Doakes who is the only man on the force who doesn't like Dexter. Smart fella
Try it. You just might like it ;)

I've watched the first two episodes so far, got the third all ready to go sometime tomorrow I think.
So far, love it  It's so freakishly weird. Takes dark humour to whole new heights. MCH in the title role is perfect. Comes across very well as Joe Average on the exterior but then absolutely captivates as his twisted alter-ego.
The narration makes the show. Without it you'd be completely lost, but it's a great examination of the psychopathic mentality, as he easily switches between casual everyday observations, to describing his perceived game of cat-and-mouse with another serial killer, to talking through the capture and execution of his latest victim. All in the same tone!
Very well written, very well acted, and the kind of show that you're rarely likely to see outside of cable outlets like Showtime or HBO. I can see this one doing really well. Certainly hope so on the evidence so far

I've just finished watching a Six Feet Under rewatch, so I was over the moon to discover Michael C Hall in the lead. I don't understand why I didn't twig that it was him from reading Karen's post.
Love the humour so far, and it has to be one of the only shows where the narration isn't annoying, I think it actually makes it funnier

Episode 1x04
Fantastic episode, it seems the 'Ice Truck Killer' doesn't know our favourite serial killer as well as he thought ;)
Loved the whole 'Tombraider' scene :naughty:

Dexter will strike again.
Showtime has ordered a second season of the crime drama, which stars Six Feet Under's Michael C. Hall in the title role as a Miami police forensics expert who also happens to be a serial killer. The new season of twelve hour-long episodes will begin production in the spring and air next summer.
Based on the novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay, Dexter earned an average of 2 million weekly viewers. Showtime president Robert Greenblatt said renewing the show was a no-brainer for the cable network.
"Dexter is a home run for us, both critically and in popularity--the show was launched at the height of all the broadcast networks' fall launches and instantly became our highest-rated show," he said in a statement. "People seem fascinated by the moral ambiguity of Dexter." |

"Heard about new show Dexter in the states, the premise looks intriguing any news on it coming down to these shores and how is it doing so far?" Neil: It's doing well; so well in fact that Showtime has already ordered a second season. It airs here on FX from early next year. |

I've watched up to episode 4 now  it's fabulous and I love Julie Benz in it

Episode 7, yet another fantastic episode
Anyone else feel like cheering at the end  I just loved Dexter's smile there at the end when he realised he had been right all the way along, the man they have in custody is not the Ice Truck killer :D
Do you think it could be the Dr? Or is he too obvious?
melian - November 20, 2006 08:09 PM (GMT)
Julie asked us who we thought the killer was, we were right!!!!
Try as we might, she wouldn't give us any clues but she did say that she was going to be showing an awful lot of herself in this weeks episode ;) And so she did
She also said that Rita and Darla were alike in many ways
I think Julie has now moved to number one on my christmas card list
This weeks episode was just fantastic  Again
Only 4 more episodes left now :tear:

Just watched the pilot for this... not too sure what to make of it. Certainly has a lot of potential, but you do need a strong stomach.
A lot of interesting characters too... not too sure about the swear-y Sergeant though.. and off course it is lovely seeing the divine Julie Benz again.
Not too sure if I’ll carry on with this to be honest.
Am I correct in thinking the season has finished and there were only 13 episodes?
laughitupfuzzball - December 22, 2006 07:59 AM (GMT)
It has just finished but it has been renewed for a second.
I know what you mean but stick with it, it becomes very compelling, one of the best shows of the year!
Crichton Kicks - December 22, 2006 08:03 AM (GMT)
I'd stick with it if I were you Moe. Along with Heroes, Dexter's been one of the best new shows to come along this year. It's everything you'd expect of an HBO show

Showtime now says season two of our darling Dexter starts in October. Production on season two begins in late May, and when I last spoke with Julie Benz about the show, she told me, "All I know is I have to deal with the implications of the shoe!" (You do remember the shoe of her ex-hubby, who was framed for parole violations by Dex, right?) And Lauren Vélez told me her detective character, who got demoted at the end of season one, should not be counted out. "I don't think she's gonna spend too much time crawling up. I think she's just gonna get up."
