Title: So Season 4 Then.
Hippy - September 26, 2006 08:41 AM (GMT)
Do I need to pause for everyone ( :lmao: ) to catch up or carry straight on
willowroolz - September 26, 2006 10:14 AM (GMT)
Whatever. It's not like we're really discussing all the episodes
Hippy - September 26, 2006 10:33 AM (GMT)
Probably because everyone agrees with my refined opinion and thus there's no reason to discuss further :ponder:

Not sure where to put this.
We have just finished S4 tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. I am not sure if the cliffhanger was as inspired as TBOBW but it was probably a good idea to go for an intimate cliffhanger after the action cliffhanger of S3.
I am not sure if S3 is better than S4 but they both seem to be of an extremely high standard after the mediocre S1 and S2. sk

There's really not a great deal to choose between the third and fourth seasons (and fifth and six to be honest). After the first couple of years the step up in quality is hard to fathom, it just comes from nowhere.
I think after the third season cliffhanger, The Best of Both Worlds, the end of season four was pretty much on a hiding to nothing. In terms of sheer drama, I don't believe that BOBW has ever been topped in Star Trek. I'm glad that they didn't go for something similar at the end of season four. The other bonus with Redemption is that it brings on the character of Worf, and by extension the Klingon Empire, immensely.

I'd say it came from Michael Piller :)

For me, in terms of cliffhangers, the only one that has ever come close to it is The X Files' Anasazi :)
I think season 4 was probably the most consistent season of TNG. There are a lot of great episodes in there, although I don't think any of them stood out as much as the aforementioned BoBW or Yesterday's Enterprise, which are still two of the very best, although my favourite has always been Darmok.

Actually Steve, re: Mike Piller, you're absolutely spot on. Further evidenced by the fact that Berman/Braga assumed control over Voyager and pretty much left Piller/Behr to their own devices on DS9. Each show has its relative merits, but for me, DS9 easily surpasses Voyager's quality.
Always narks me that on the DS9 DVDs Berman gets so much time, the majority of which he spends patting his own back.
The Third season of TNG was just great. BOBW, Yesterday's Enterprise, The Offspring, they're all three of my favourite stories told in the Star Trek universe. You're right in that season four was probably more consistent. The highs of season 3 were great, but there were a few duffers in there as well; The Most Toys, Menage a Trois spring to mind!
In terms of cliffhangers, the end of Farscape's second season was pretty good. B5 never really did cliffhangers of sorts, but Chrysalis certainly left you wondering just where the show was going.
Bugger it, I'm digging BOBW out tonight!

Oh, I don't know, Z'ha'dum wasn't too shabby as cliffhangers go

Almost a great example of a literal cliffhanger of sorts, if Sheridan hadn't jumped off the damned thing!

'Course failing to recognise or wrongly attributing quality is a pretty noticeable trait in B5 fans :ph43r: :whistling:

See Dave, you undermine your own argument there by heralding The Most Toys as anything other than hideous.....
