I don't think there are enough superlatives for this episode :)
One of the best TNG episodes, and one of the best cliffhangers EVER!

Indeed. It was the first cliffhanger that really had an effect on me. Fortunately, when the videos were released, pt 2 came out on the same day - although I still forced myself to wait 24 hours before watching it

For the love of God why?
One of the best episodes that Trek has ever produced, certainly from a dramatic standpoint.

I wanted to treat it like a proper cliffhanger
Jumping straight into the next episode would have diminished it, imo :snooty:
Especially when pt 2 is a teensy bit of a let down :ponder:
Couldn't wait more than 24 hours, though

:yahoo:
The original and still the best cliffhanger ST ever did
Love the whole feel of the episode, helped by some great background music and edgy camera angles, with Shelby adding to the mood by introducing even more tension to the crew :)
Obviously it's lost it's impact now, but the first view of Picard as a Borg was completely unexpected and more than a bit shocking :)
Great stuff

Probably the best cliffhanger on any show I've seen, full stop. The only one I can think of that comes anywhere near it, for me, is The X Files' Anasazi
It's weird coming back to it after all this time, because the impact has lessened so much, and yet it's still a great episode. And it's a great Riker episode, above all else - Jonathan Frakes is at his best here. It's fascinating to think back to how the show's future was so up in the air at this point, that some of the actors might not return. Michael Piller wasn't even intending to return and freely admitted that Part 1 works so well because he wrote them into such a corner that there was no way out, mainly because he wasn't going to have to worry about solving the problem because he wasn't coming back for season 4. Then he changed his mind
Ron Jones' score is just fabulous. It's another odd situation, because I got hold of the soundtrack CD before the episodes were even released on video in the UK, so I knew the music back to front before seeing the show. When I saw it for the first time I remember picking up on all the music cues, and remembering what they were called, which made watching the episode very strange.
The other scene I love is the one between Picard and Guinan, and of course the final scene which still works a treat.
The episode, I find, is always slightly tainted because it's not stand alone, and the second part was a let down in many ways, and also because Elizabeth Denehey (sp?) cannot act to save her life, which comes close to ruining some pretty intense scenes. It's also quite amusing to see them running around inside the Borg ship, when they obviously only had a small set so they just keep running back and forwards on the same bit over and over again
It's also slightly bizarre, after the build up, the dramatic score, and Riker saying "Fire", that we should run straight into the jaunty old theme tune - doesn't seem appropriate after the preceding events, somehow

I remember that when they released BOBW as a movie on VHS they edited it into one long TV movie. The effect was that the final scene of part one was pretty much ruined, as the fire line was abbreviated and the music playing with it to build up the tension was curtailed as they cut early to the FX shot of the Enterprise firing.
