Title: Jericho
Description: Will contain spoilers
melian - September 16, 2006 01:10 PM (GMT)
Has anyone seen the pilot for this yet? I know it doesn't officially start till next Wednesday but I wondered if there was anyone else as impatient as me :ph43r:
For those who haven't heard of it before here is a brief synopsis.........
| QUOTE |
| A nuclear mushroom cloud appears on the horizon -- and for the residents of Jericho, a small Kansas town, it could mean they're the only Americans left alive. Fear of the unknown propels Jericho into mayhem, causing the town to come apart at the seams. Secrets are revealed, personal agendas take over and even the most sensible people become paranoid. But even in a time of crisis, some folks will find an inner strength they never knew existed, causing them to emerge as the most unlikeliest of heroes. |

Wow! I was on the edge of my seat throughout most of the episode :o
The main character, Jake Green (played by the lovely Skeet Ulric), returns home to Jericho to see his family after a 5 year absence. Just what has he been up to?
On his way back out of town disaster strikes and he is swept up in events far beyond his control. Meanwhile, his father, the town Mayor, is frantically trying to find out what has happened in the world outside, and to stop panic from overtaking his town. And just who is that guy who says he is an ex-cop who just moved to town?
I cannot wait for the next episode

Agree with you 100%, I thought the pilot episode was absolutely captivating
It comes across as being Jeremiah-esque in it's plot, which endeared it to me right off the bat  As pilots go though I still thought it was pretty strong. I'll be interested to see how it does in the ratings. I'm hoping it'll be ok, from what I can see it's not up against stellar competition; Bones on Fox and America's Next Top Model on CW, but besides that it could be in for a fairly light time of it (fingers crossed!).
melian - September 16, 2006 04:40 PM (GMT)
I was thinking Jeremiah too
Actually, does anyone know how I would get a hold of Jeremiah season 2?

Although MGM says that it intends to release it on DVD at some point they're very coy with specific dates, meaning it's probably not going to be anytime soon
Other than that, it's probably satellite or download.
Had a quick scan around some torrent sites and it doesn't look good :( Did I mention that I've got all of season two........?
TV Yank - September 21, 2006 04:32 PM (GMT)
JERICHO officially premiered last nite and I found it pretty engrossing.
It didn't start out promisingly, with the slightly melodramatic return of a young man to his hometown -- to a mixed reaction from the townsfolk and his family. But, this was swiftly glided over and before long the mushroom cloud appeared on the horizon and the show picked up.
This unfolds at a very deliberate pace. More like the pacing of a small town. Varoius characters and their situations are introduced. But not enuf to overwhelming. My only concern, is that, with the young man's mysterious background, and another man's mysterious background, we might be seeing another LOST -- with each little revelation leading to more layers of mystery. I gave up on LOST. I hope this shows keeps a rein on that aspect.
And the actors -- a fine group. Skeet Ulrich in the lead. The ever reliable (in acting and in persona) Gerald McRaney as his dad (I don't know if you'll notice that his Southern accent is a tiny bit stronger here). As his mother, an exceptional actress, Pamela Reed -- remember her as Arnold's fellow-FBI-agent in KINDERGARTEN COP? And from JOHN DOE and JOAN OF ARCADIA, young Sprague Graydon may finally have gotten a role suited for her.
This show is worth keeping an eye on. However, its opposite BONES and I'm forced to multitask.

Hmmm... Sounds quite good. Maybe I should get it...
Currently waiting for Kidnapped to download, though judging by last night's figures, it is not going to last a full season...
It is up against CSI: NY and Grey’s Anatomy though, so it never had a chance to begin with.
"CSI: NY" - 10.6/18
"Grey's Anatomy" - 7.3/12
"Jericho" - 7.5/12
"Bones," 4.7/8
"Kidnapped" - 5.1/8
melian - September 21, 2006 07:23 PM (GMT)
I must admit that I really enjoyed Kidnapped too  As much as I love to see Skeet Ulrich on my screen every week, Jeremy Sisto is just as appealing  Not that I am shallow or anything :ph43r:

Airing a full month behind the similarly themed Vanished probably hasn't helped either
melian - September 21, 2006 10:48 PM (GMT)
I like Vanished, all except for the main FBI guy. He really could do with some acting lessons
Psycho Jack - September 22, 2006 01:17 PM (GMT)
Watched both Kidnapped and Jericho lost night.
Both are very good...
Jericho definitely has a lot of potential. A lot of very interesting characters were introduced very quickly, so it will give them time to explore and develop them.
Kidnapped started off very quick; again it has potential and was quite enjoyable.
I’m going to keep up with both of them me thinks. :ponder:

Sounds like CBS were quite happy with the premiere of Jericho;
| QUOTE |
CBS cleaned up in Wednesday's prime time with a strong return by CSI: NY and Criminal Minds, as well as an encouraging start for the nuclear-war drama Jericho.
Despite losing the 8 p.m. hour to ABC's Dancing With the Stars, CBS won the night in viewership and the adults 18-49 demographic. It outdistanced a two-hour Grey's Anatomy repeat that did pretty well ahead of Thursday's season premiere, and CBS buried Fox and NBC's premiere of Kidnapped.
CSI: NY (16.1 million viewers, 5.0 rating/14 share) was the night's top show in viewers and the key demographic, according to data released Thursday by Nielsen Media Research. The 10 p.m. investigative drama left Grey's (10.5 million, 3.8/10) in the dust, though the medical drama did well for a repeat. CSI: NY was up 21 percent in viewership and 11 percent in the demo compared with its season premiere last year.
But more worrisome was NBC's Kidnapped, which could find only 7.6 million viewers and a 2.8/8 in adults 18-49.
Dancing (15 million, 3.7/11) was the unquestionable winner at 8 p.m., though Jericho (11.7 million, 3.4/10) got off to a good start against both Dancing and NBC's two-hour premiere of The Biggest Loser (7.2 million, 3.1/9). Fox's Bones (7.5 million, 2.5/8) didn't do as well.
Beyond the strong number against Dancing, CBS executives had other things to cheer about with Jericho. The dark drama outpaced its cheerful counterparts--Still Standing and Yes, Dear--by 48 percent in adults 18-49 and 71 percent in viewership. It was the best performance in the time period for CBS since January 2004's 60 Minutes Wednesday.
The 9 p.m. hour belonged to Criminal Minds, which averaged 15.6 million viewers and a 4.5/12. That not only was well above everything else, it also was the best viewership for the show since January and up 48 percent compared with its premiere last September. |

I stuck around for CRIMINAL MINDS and CSI: NY, too. However, JERICHO's tone made the hyperkinetic CM and CSI:NY feel artificial. It didn't help that neither had a particularly good storyline.

The CSI: LV Season premiere was last nite. The episode was only so-so, IMO. However, they devoted a few minutes to setting up next week's episode. Wow! to those few minutes.

Can we interpret this to mean that viewers prefer people being saved as opposed to people being autopsied? <_<
Or is it that CSI has grown old and tepid. And overexposed (what with CSI: MIAMI and CSI:NY). :ponder:

I think that it is just that there are more cute men and women in Grey's

Anyone who was dissatisfied about the pacing of the first episode of JERICHO should check out the tension filled second episode. Cliched situations, yes. But, it seems almost fresh. (Gotta remember that the larger post-apocalyptic plot itself is not really fresh. It was commonplace in the 50s thru 80s in various media.)
I never did like the blonde actress whose name I never learned -- and she falls short as an actress in the climactic scene. That's easy to overlook, tho. It's a "take and deep breath and hang on" episode.
Crichton Kicks - September 28, 2006 09:56 PM (GMT)
Really enjoyed the second episode. I still can't shake off the Jeremiah vibes whilst watching it, but that's no bad thing in my book. Yeah, the pacing was definitely a lot faster this week, helped due to the time constraint put in place at the beginning of the episode.
That final scene looked fairly ominous. Looked like he was going to run out of those red pins before he'd finished! :o
Crichton Kicks - September 28, 2006 10:13 PM (GMT)
Good news on the numbers for this week's episode;
| QUOTE |
NBC's Kidnapped lost viewers in its second week, while CBS's Jericho improved, making it one of the few new shows of the fall season to improve week over week.
Kidnapped scored a 2.1 in the 18 to 49 demographic, snaring 6.3 million viewers, according to Neilsen overnight ratings. The show, about an unorthodox mercenary (Six Feet Under's Jeremy Sisto) who attempts to seek out and rescue a kidnapped teen, received good reviews but has struggled in the ratings.
Apocalypse drama Jericho was up 13 percent from its premiere last week. Moreover, the show added viewers as its hour progressed.
At 8 p.m., Dancing With the Stars took first with a 4.0 rating, followed by CBS and Jericho with a 3.6, and Fox and Bones with a 2.7. CW and NBC tied at 2.6 with America's Next Top Model and The Biggest Loser, respectively--but Model finished first in adults and women 18 to 34.
In the 9 p.m. spot, CBS and Criminal Minds stole first with a 4.8 rating, ABC's Lost recap show tied with NBC and the second hour of Biggest Loser at 3.4, Fox saw ratings for its flagging drama Justice take a jump to a 2.6, and the CW scored 1.7 for the season premiere of One Tree Hill.
At 10 p.m., ABC's Terri Irwin interview on 20/20 tied with CBS's CSI: NY at 5.1, followed by Kidnapped at 2.1.
Overall, CBS scored 9.5/15, ABC 8.5/14, Fox 4.8/8, NBC 4.5/7, and CW 3.0/5. |

It's heading to Hallmark (then ITV). Surprisingly it's doing pretty well - actually built its ratings from the premiere to more than 11 million viewers. |

No I can't see that either. I think they've had an episode raising the subject, possibly another episode dedicated to experiencing the fallout itself, and then I'd imagine they'll move on. You can't have too many episodes of them all holed up somewhere. Surely!

Can't say I'm surprised. Eleven million is not a hit but it's a very good showing.
Ep 4 was okay, but it had me thinking more about the show's weaknesses. One of which is that it reminded more strongly of LOST -- with the "looping" and the deeping mystery behind the black man with no hint of answers in sight. LOST made me frustrated and I quit tuning in. JERICHO might well do the same.
I need more Gerald McRaney, Pamela Reed and sprague Graydon to help me more the dull spots. In Ep 4, they didn't appear enuf.
And -- boy! -- am I NOT interested in the soap opera life of the brother.
Crichton Kicks - October 13, 2006 04:55 PM (GMT)
Still reminds me more of Jeremiah than Lost, although I can easily see what leads you to that Parallel John.
I don't things will get as intricate or as complex as Lost, as you say, 11 million viewers is a decent showing, but it doesn't give them the flexibility to fool around with the viewers' patience as much as Lost's numbers do.
I was quite happy with the fourth episode. It pretty much confirmed one of the suspicions against one of the characters, although, like Lost, that's leading to more questions.
prophecy girl - December 2, 2006 04:21 PM (GMT)
CBS has launched an expanded Web site, WhoDroppedTheBomb.com, for its post-apocalyptic series Jericho to mollify fans until it returns on Feb. 14, 2007, according to The Hollywood Reporter; the site has webcasts of episodes with commentary tracks, a Jericho wiki encyclopedia and sneak peeks at upcoming episodes.
