Stardate: 43807.4 A nervous and insecure officer, Lt. Reginald Barclay, places the Enterprise in great danger when he neglects his duties in Engineering, and instead spends his time acting out his fantasies on the holodeck.

I always enjoy this one, even thought it's incredibly preachy and rather daft.

It does contain one of the funniest moments in the whole series, when Picard mistakenly calls Barclay by his nickname - the look of horror on Picard's face, and then Data's attempt to make him feel better, is priceless (not to mention Riker's amused smile) :lmao:

Also, Riker's and Troi's reactions to their respective hologram representations is hilarious, particularly Troi preaching to Riker and then flying into a fury over the Goddess of Empathy (love the smug grin on Riker's face in the background)

The whole principle exhibited by the main crew - that there can't possibly be a less than perfect crewman on board - grates somewhat, though. For that reason alone Barclay comes across as more believable than most, although Dwight Schultz (as is his wont) overplays things a little too much. He certainly doesn't annoy as much as the likes of Geordi and Wesley do on a consistent basis, though, which is probably the opposite of what the writers were hoping to achieve.

My problems with the holodeck surface again. It's a finite space, therefore - when Geordi, Riker and Troi walk in to the programme - Barclay should be right in front of them, yet they have to wonder off trying to find him. I'm assuming that the holodeck adjusts the surroundings for different people in different parts of the room, but it does stretch the imagination a little :ponder:

I was also slightly mesmerised by Guinan's hat, which was wobbling all over the place like it had a life of its own

Good, but not half as much fun as The Nth Degree :)

I like this one :)

Pretty much agree with everything Steve said, I always enjoy Dwight Schultz as I was brung up on the A Team like

One of the things that I like about the ep is the drawing together of the storyline to Barclay putting it together at the end, and in doing so showing he's good at his job and Crusher Boy should butt out and let him get on with it  :snooty:

As Steve said ( ) whether the writers intended to make Barclay quite such a sympathetic character I'm not sure but it does make some of the crew, Riker and Wes look pretty unpleasant in places :ponder:
