Stardate: 43685.2 Worf is reunited with his long-lost brother when their father is charged with treason for helping the Romulans. Together they make an appeal to the Klingon High Council to challenge the charges, and have them revoked.

Enjoyed this one :)
First major view of Klingon culture, following on from the earlier ep with the cultural exchange.
On re-watching I was quite surprised at Worf deciding to accept discommendation so quickly - for such a major decision he didn't seem to take long to make his mind up  Not to mention that by taking the decision he let the real traitors family continue unpunished and continued the dishonourable behaviour of the council, all very strange. (Don't really buy the civil war excuse, given how corrupt the council appears it would seem almost inevitable that some faction would challenge at some point :ponder: ).
Still, all that aside it was an interesting look at Klingon culture and sets things up nicely for future eps :)

Sooooo, if you were in the same situation, had proved your father's innocence but were told that you and your brother were to be executed anyway and you realised that the only way for you to save him was to accept discommendation would you not make that decision instantly? Especially if you weren't serving on a Klingon ship? You're a hard man, David

But surely the point was that by using Worf as a scapegoat they were trying to divert attention away from the truth - and the powerful Duras family - and thereby stave off any such challenge?
The arrival of the evil Duras gets a big thumbs up, more action for Picard, Tony Todd's first appearance, and that brilliant final scene
Had to laugh at the way the crew went to Riker to have a moan, bunch of wusses
Fantastic episode

As Kirk would say I don't believe in the no win scenario, there are always other options.
I would have beamed us both to the Enterprise, used Kurns contacts to spread word of the councils corrupt activities, rallied them under my banner and stormed the great hall, beheading Duras and the council in the process :01: :guns: :yahoo:
Emperor Davey, it's got a nice ring to it :ponder:

I know that's what they were doing I just can't see that some other faction wouldn't challenge at some point - if the council was that corrupt you'd have to assume they'd piss off one of the other families who would be in a position to take a more proactive stance than Worf did  :ponder:

I know you knew, I figured you'd just chosen to ignore it ;)
I would imagine that Klingon society operates much as the chain of command on a Bird of Prey works, like in A Matter of Honour - sooner or later someone would challenge for the leadership regardless of whether the Council was corrupt or not :ponder:

Course it'd be honourable. I'd be ridding the Empire of a dishonourable leadership
And I'd make a fine Klingon. I can drink and B'atleth people in the head with the best of 'em  :snooty:

Beaming out (aka "running away like a big girl") and then coming back with back-up because you're too big of a wuss to take them on yourself? I laugh in the face of your idea of honour :p  ;)

To quote Worf from The Way of The Warrior:-
"In war there is nothing more honourable than winning" :p :whistling:
Besides which, there's nothing wrong with a strategic withdrawal (sp?) given that Worf had effectively been betrayed by the council :ponder:

Yes but, as you have already agreed, Worf isn't the same character on DS9, therefore negating your argument :p :01:

But for Worf's character it is more honourable for him to voluntarily take discommendation. Can you imagine if he and Picard had beamed out and done as you say? The likely outcome would have been all out war with the Federation, regardless of the Council's corruption :ermm:
