Title: Pre-ordering A Wii?
Description: And where is the best place to buy one?

Dan Brown - September 8, 2006 02:50 AM (GMT)
With the PS3 not coming out here until March 2007, I want to get my pre-order ASAP.

I need to get ahold of 2, yes thats 2 Wii consoles for Christmas, thats one for me and one for my brother (as he lives at a different address and my parents don't have a clue about consoles and having to pre-order).

I want to get one but I am going to be picky where I get it from.....

Definately not getting one from HMV, due to bad service in relation to Nintendo DS's with pixel faults and a battery problem, bought two DS's on same day from them and both had dead pixels and my one now (which isn't played very often only bought 17/12/05) has a battery that doesn't last very long 45mins-1hr. So now I've decided to ship both of them off (as had to ship battery one off anyway) to Nintendo for repair. At least they have been as always helpful and I have no quibble with them just HMV. I like the way Nintendo's warranty is validated from the moment your receipt is printed you don't have to fill in a card and send it off, yada yada. In terms on courtesy for customers, Nintendo are second to none. For their customer service alone Sony deserve to lose this generation of the console war.

And I have a problem with Gamestation, its fine just to buy games but the consoles bought new only have a 28 day guarantee with them, so beware.

GAME in Sutton won't be getting my custom anymore, have to say worst customer service ever, their staff no nothing, but act like they do and give out wrong info all the time, apparently the Wii is next gen DVD compatible, I think some people are going to be dissapointed when the insert their Blu-ray and HD-DVD discs???? And I'll be lucky if its open when I get there, the opening times are so erractic it seems they open and close when they feel like it. Closed at 5.00p.m. on a late night shopping thursday??? Plus the prices on the boxes never seem to be right and you would get charged £5-£10 more and if you query it your told thats the price and there is no way of changing it on their system. But I must praise the branches (they have 2) I visit in Kingston, which I go to when I'm at Uni, they seem to be much better examples of how to actually run a business.

Is it just me or has it become harder over the past few years to get shops to deal with defective goods??? I'm sure the law hasn't changed, but they seem to be more willing to bend or break it. After 28 days they seem to think its no longer their problem....I'm just getting really P*ssed off when something is faulty these days because it seems to have turned into the spanish inquistion at many stores now, with staff running off to 'discuss' the problem with a manager who hides in a little room in the back. Is this what it has come to....if we put people off even trying to return items then they never will...problem solved!!!

Really I want a place which can ensure me at least 1, and have a no quibble returns policy, instead of a 'we don't deal with it send it to Nintendo'.

Anyhoo (RANT OVER!!!) back to the machine....I'm so exicted and I hope its not all hype...I think what I'm looking forward the most to is the Virtual Console where you can download NES, SNES, and N64 games wooohooo!!! If it comes with only a 20GB hard drive mine will be filled within 10 minutes.

Nowhere is taking pre-orders yet.....but my quest must continue for I must be waving around a nuchaka controller at Christmas or the tri-force will be lost forever.....

Hey Dan, sounds like you need to nove to a town/city with better game shops

I too will be grabbing a Wii as soon as possible  I think if you start looking around in the latter half of next week you should be able to preorder it. Seems Ninty are having a press briefing on Tuesday or Wednesday where they are finally going to announce the all important "pricing point". Once the shops know what they're meant to be charging, I'm sure they'll start taking orders.

Also looking forward to the virtual console. For two games especially...

Super Star Wars :yahoo: :yahoo:
and
Goldeneye :yahoo: :yahoo:

A Mr. Burns syle 'Excellent' from me.....

As for Goldeneye and Super Star Wars, hate to shatter your dreams but I really don't think Goldeneye will make an appearance though, due to the Bond license being in the hands of Activision at the moment. Super Star Wars will probably show up though.

If Goldeneye was on there though I'd snap it up immeaditely, but what I'm after is

The N64 Paper Mario game, and the NES or SNES??? version of Bucky O'Hare. Amongst others....I'd probably download everything they put up on there, I've done that with the decent releases with the Xbox 360 Arcade. I have more Arcade titles than actual Xbox 360 games.

Its great to think though that'll I'll be able to make sure that I have the games I loved from a few years ago to ten years ago again, without having to buy a second hand NES, SNES and my N64 is on its last legs.

Just hoping I can pre-order it in two different shops, because of these T*ats that are buying more than 1 and selling on ebay, stores only do 1 pre-order per customer, and I've been put in charge of making sure my bro gets one for christmas, but I want one to!!!! :tear: .....I might actually have to go into GAME SUTTON!!!! :fear:

Also I went into Virgin, and asked about a Wii, and they looked at me funny....until I said its the new Nintendo console, on which they then went to talk to the manager. He said its not so much the price but they need to know how many they are going to get, because they don't want to take too many pre-orders and end up with lots of angry people.

Play.com are taking orders @ the RRP of £179.99, with the Wii Sports game I controller and the nuchuk. December 8 release date. Which is inline with the news released today by the big N.

Games @ £39.99.

Hmmm...hopefully the shops will start to take pre-orders soon.
