The set, released on 20 November 2006, comes in lenticular packaging that features a special moving image on both front and back.

All I can say is... Bring it on. I cannot wait.

I am wondering though if the commentaries will be the same as the podcast commentaries, or if they'll be recorded specially for the box set.

I look forward to the out-takes, that is one thing that was glaringly missing from the first season box.

Deleted scenes? Oooh.

The Children in need special? So much for Terry Wogan's announcement of

It won't be available anywhere else
on the night  But again, not complaining :yahoo: :yahoo:

As for the "guests" on the lenticular cover... What are the odds it'll be the Daleks and Cybermen??

Well, with season 2's boxset fast approaching, a price cut for season 1 would seem reasonable.

Egads, what am I thinking. I'm talking about the BBC and 2Entertain as though they had an ounce of common sense between them

Phillip Culley - September 7, 2006 04:45 PM (GMT)
From what I heard, the Series 1 box set is going to be re-released at the same time as the Series 2 set, however with much more sensible packaging :)

No idea if it'll be any cheaper though...

jamiearmour - September 7, 2006 07:29 PM (GMT)
I assume you mean, with shelving friendly packaging?

That would be a weight of my DVD cabinet

Dan Brown - September 19, 2006 11:59 AM (GMT)
I just don't see value for money in 13 episodes with extras retailing at £45-£60. Give us it for £30 BBC or 2entertain and I'll take another set off your hands!!!

Have you seen the prices of HBO series like Six Feet Under and The Sopranos? All of them are comparable to Doctor Who both length-wise and price wise, and the Who sets have far better extras :)

But seeing how I have already PAID for the show through my license fee, I would have thought I would be able to LEGALLY own it for a more reasonable price.

Its a kick in the teeth, when the americans get the show cheaper than us!!

Surely we should get the show cheaper here and they should rip off the americans?

I'm presuming the first season set sold pretty well? Wasn't that similarly priced? They know they can charge more for it here and people will buy it. Different story in America where the show isn't as iconic.

What do you mean by that? Over here in Canada, the new series set had a retail price of $140 CAD (plus 14% tax in Ontario - the amount will vary based on which province it was bought in), which comes to something like 160 dollars - about 10 pounds higher than the retail price in the UK!

From what I gather, the US price for the set was 99.99 USD, however this also is the price without sales tax so that would be higer as well.

Plus, while the BBC might retail the set for 70 pounds, given the instore discounts you would be much more likely to pay only about 50 pounds back when it was released, and I wouldn't be surprised if this price has lowered further since then....

Yeah, I'm sure the price would be lower now... If it was possible to find one.

It seems they've all vanished, lending more credence to the rumour of a more reasonably sized (and priced???) re-release soon.

Cheapest I've found it is £44.99.

And Amazon.co.uk no longer stocks it.

New titles and dates announced.

April 2 sees the DVD release of the Runaway Bride, followed by the previously-announced Survival on April 16

Volume 3.1 of the new series will be released after Survival, although the exact date will obviously depend on the transmission schedule of the show itself.

May 28 sees the release of Tom Baker's first story, Robot.

June could well see two releases, Volume 3.2 of the new series at some point, plus Colin Baker's time travel and tinsel extravaganza Timelash on June 25.

Details of extras have yet to be announced, but we hope to be able to update you with these soon.

As always, all dates and details subject to change

Nowt wrong with Timelash - I've been rewatching the CB era and it's one of the better stories compared to the other tripe in Season 22....
