Title: Anyone Know Anyfink About Printers ?
little pixie - September 6, 2006 12:46 PM (GMT)
My lovely printer ( Canon s300, 4 years old ) has developed a problem - the ink isn`t getting through to the , erm, other bit of the machine.
I changed both inks ( twice, in case it was a bad batch the first time  ) but it`ll only print very faintly.
I cleaned and deep-cleaned it, then did the nozzle check - nothing`s worked. :(
Does anyone have any suggestions ? :D

I suppose you've checked that the printer preferences aren't set to draft or something like that?
Otherwise

Place printer in centre of room.
Attack with sledgehammer.
Phone up your insurers and tell them there was a cleaning related accident.
Arrange for replacement of printer and pay your £50 excess.
Deny all knowledge of ever reading this post or knowing anyone who posts under the name 'Hippy'.
:ph43r:
Or just take it in to your local PC repair type shop and ask them if it's worth fixing :ponder:

Don`t know what draft is, but I looked at the preferences and it`s still the usual custom colour thingy.

Most of the time if a printer goes TU it's cheaper to buy a new one than get it fixed, or at least there's so little in it you may as well go for something shiny and new. :)

<< Denies all knowledge of ever reading this post >> :shifty:
Since the printer and separate scanner cost £50 in total - special offer :01: - possibly the latter suggestion would be better. :ponder:

Ooh, and thanks for the advice - back to the conkers. :)

Last time we had a printer that went wrong it turned out to be cheaper to just go and buy a new one........
Edit:  just realised Paul already said pretty much the same thing

Yeah my printers been on the blink recently, won't print out very good, but its not just the fact that its broken its because its a cheap printer and its a Lexmark one ( they are really sh*te) so if you buy a new one, don't go for a cheap one full stop and don't get a Lexmark. Plus the ink cartrigides are £13-£20 a pop and they only seem to do 20 pages of back text, making it cheaper (but less convenient) to print my w**k out at uni.
I think I'm gonna get either a HP or a Canon.
Any suggestions?

My Canon`s been w.orking perfectly for 4 and 1/2 years....It`s good for photos as well as the usual stuff. :)
Until now...

Well it put in a good innings, 4 years is along time and time for an upgrade!!!
Don't be sad its gone to a better place (unless you take it down the local dump, well then it hasn't its gone to a worse place and you should be ashamed of yourself).

Good news !
Colin the Canon ( ) has sprung back to life - the clean, deep clean and nozzle check were all repeated a couple of times, and it`s printing fine again ! :yahoo:
