| Stars tipped for glory Rock band The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Latin pop singer Shakira are among the stars tipped to triumph at the MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday. Both are up for seven prizes, while Madonna and newcomers Panic! at the Disco have five nominations each. King Kong star Jack Black will host the awards, which will be broadcast live from New York's Radio City Music Hall. He will introduce performances from pop and rock favourites including Beyonce, The Killers and Justin Timberlake. 'Danger' Dani California by The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Shakira's Hips Don't Lie are both nominated for video of the year. They are competing with Madonna's Hung Up, Ain't No Other Man by Christina Aguilera and Panic! At The Disco's I Write Sins Not Tragedies. Aguilera is also nominated for three other awards including best female video, which will bring her up against Madonna, Shakira, Kelly Clarkson and Nelly Furtado. UK singer James Blunt is joined in the best male video category by Kanye West, Busta Rhymes, TI and Nick Lachey. The best group video is between the Gnarls Barkley, Panic! at the Disco, All-American Rejects, Fall Out Boy, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. The awards return to New York after two years in Miami, with MTV promising "a little bit of that New York danger". Story from BBC NEWS: |
