rob - August 19, 2006 10:57 PM (GMT)
SCI FI Channel and its sister NBC Universal networks will air a one-hour recap special of the original series Battlestar Galactica in advance of the show's October third-season premiere. Battlestar Galactica: The Story So Far will incorporate footage from the original SCI FI miniseries and the previous two seasons of the Peabody Award-winning series. The special will be narrated from the point of view of Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell), the resistance leader on Cylon-occupied New Caprica. The special will also appear on SCIFI.COM's SCI FI Pulse broadband network.
The special will be broadcast as follows: Aug. 13 at 10 p.m. on NBC West Coast, Aug. 28 Free On Demand via SCI FI's cable affiliates, Sept. 15 at 12 a.m. on USA Network, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. on Universal HD, Sept. 18 at 9 a.m. on USA, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. on Universal HD, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. on Sleuth, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. on Bravo, Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. on Bravo, Sept. 30 at 4 p.m. on Universal HD, throughout the month of September on SCI FI Pulse and Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. on SCI FI.
Throughout September, The Story So Far will also be made available for download via iTunes and XBox Live and will be distributed at Best Buy as a bonus DVD with the Battlestar Galactica season 2.5 DVD set and other genre titles from Universal Home Video. The DVD will also be distributed to visitors to the Universal Studios theme parks, and snippets of the special will be available on YouTube.com, Google Video and other video portal sites.

Of course to me Rob, 'the original series BSG' would mean the Richard Hatch/Dirk Benedict series ;)
Slightly narked at these bonus discs that keep turning up on R1 sets at the moment and not ours! Was it the Boston Legal sets from Target or Best Buy on R1 that had an additional disc with the last seven episodes of the prequal series The Practice on it!
Instead we get a bog standard release at twice the price.....

But how is this any different to all these HMV exclusive sets (IIRC they had a special box set of Coupling with more extras/commentaries for one) - if the store has contributed to the bonus disc, why can't they get the exclusivity?
I suppose though I really should see if these discs are available in Best Buy Canada as well as Best Buy in the USA :)

It is a bit annoying. But then I got the r2 season 1 set before the r1 came out, saw all the extras that were on the r1, got annoyed and bought that as well, then have never even glanced at the extras
So I've come to the conclusion that, so long as all the episodes are there as they're meant to be, I'm no longer bothered. Extras, when I do watch them, are usually a watch once and forget affair for me anyway

I'm not so bothered with the BSG set to be honest. I'd already got the podcast audio commentaries anyway, and with season two, at least we get one set and not the almost now traditional two
The Boston Legal one really p*ssed me off though. Viewers would really benefit from seeing the backend of The Practice as that's where the characters of Alan Shore and Denny Crane are introduced, before moving over to Boston Legal. It's a little odd when you come into a new series and seemingly half the cast know each other a lot more than you'd expect.
Having said that, I have managed to 'acquire' season eight of The Practice, and it still hasn't been watched....... :ph43r:

Rip off Britain effect....happens with DVDs, Games, Books and games consoles.... absolutely everything here is overpriced and contains less than what you can buy in other countries.
Example the Wii Games Console has been said to cost less than 250 euro's in Europe (£170). I wouldn't put it past them that it will be selling here for £200. Lets just wait and see.

I remember Burger King shot themselves in the foot once.
They were doing a £1.99 promotion on something or other and advertising heavily on the telly - one night by mistake the advert meant for the Republic of Ireland/rest of europe went out with the same offer at E1.99 (ie 2/3 to 1/2 the price).

And then they wonder why we download everything we can
