Title: Albums Of The Year So Far...
willowroolz - August 8, 2006 10:36 AM (GMT)
As many as you like, only stipulation is that they have to have been released this year (which totally buggers me up cos Opeth's Ghost Reveries would've been straight in at number 1  ) and no re-releases :)
So for me...
1. Tool - 10,000 Days
2. Pure Reason Revolution - The Dark Third
3. The Flower Kings - Paradox Hotel
4. Secret Machines - Ten Silver Drops
5. Wolfmother - Wolfmother
...and bubbling under...
Frost* - Milliontown
Muse - Black Holes & Revelations
Riverside - Voices In My Head
Biggest disappointment:
The Tangent - A Place In The Queue - got it after reading several rave reviews. Musically brilliant but the vocals are awful, ruin the whole thing (and this is coming from a Rush fan  ).
Bad Wolf - August 8, 2006 11:55 AM (GMT)
I've bought loads of albums this year but most of them are nothing more than ok...
Angels and Airwaves - We Don't Need To Whisper is the only really good one I can think of
Sparkle Motion - August 8, 2006 12:17 PM (GMT)
I agree that nothing's stood out for me.
The best so far is Snow Patrol: Eyes Open.
Honourable mentions to Arctic Monkeys and Angels & Airwaves :)
Michelle - August 8, 2006 12:24 PM (GMT)
I can't think of any new albums I've actually bought this year.
The best album I've not bought (but still technically half own :shifty:) is Muse: Black Holes & Revelations.
Was Arctic Monkeys this year? Well, I bought that and thought it was good, but not as good as some of last year's efforts.

T'was January methinks :)
Bill The Bloodless - August 8, 2006 02:11 PM (GMT)
I've only bought one album this year and that was a bit of an impulse buy, only thought about it for about 3 or 4 weeks. :)

At a guess was it Muse? :)

A good guess but no. :) I wanted to listen to the songs they released first but haven't heard them yet, a downside of never listening to the radio I suppose.
Oops forgot to say it was Nina Simone.
jamiearmour - August 8, 2006 02:43 PM (GMT)
The only album I've paid for :whistling: this year was Stadium Arcadium by the chillis
Well worth it
little pixie - August 8, 2006 02:50 PM (GMT)
Snow Patrol - Eyes Open
Got the keane album at the same time and haven`t listened to it much.
Ordered the new Muse album last week. :)
willowroolz - August 8, 2006 03:00 PM (GMT)
Just asked my boss (who's 2 years older than me) what his albums of the year are and, after much discussion (and consulting Amazon), we have established that he owns the grand total of one album that has been released since the year 2000
The last watcher - August 8, 2006 03:06 PM (GMT)
Of the albums I have bought this year, most of them have been replacing my old records/tapes.....(so that means probably released 70/80s :ph43r: )
Have no idea if I've got any released this year.....
:ponder: Was Karmacode released this year....?

Yes it was :)

Ooh ooh! That means I've got one then...... :yahoo:
Guess my vote goes for that then...... :ph43r:
NJS - August 8, 2006 05:39 PM (GMT)
My favourite so far is Placebo by a long way.
Laura - August 8, 2006 09:40 PM (GMT)
I don't think I've bought that many albums that have been released this year, I'm stingy and wait for the sales .
Probably the only album I've bought that has been released this year is Snow Patrol's Eyes Open which is really good.
rob - August 9, 2006 08:34 AM (GMT)
Dixie Chicks - Taking The Long Way :ph43r:

You're not related to Mark (BtB) are you? ;)
willowroolz - August 9, 2006 08:56 AM (GMT)
Decided to give The Tangent another go this morning, after my earlier comments, which I still stand by :ponder: Musically it's one of the best pure prog rock albums I've heard since Yes were in their heyday ( :ph43r: ), I just wish the singer would shut the f*ck up
Nick - August 9, 2006 10:05 AM (GMT)
Go team for me best album that I've bought this year as well as Maximo Park (which I bought this year but came out in Oct last)

Well if you're allowed to have that I'm having Opeth's Ghost Reveries, cos I bought that this year :snooty:
kicking it old school - August 9, 2006 10:11 AM (GMT)
Mine would probably be Snow Patrol or Muse :)

Ah, another one I bought. For some reason I haven't had chance to listen to it much yet so I don't know whether I like it or not. I must rectify that before Reading. :)

 & Oi! I might be offended if it wasn't true. :)
Hovis - August 9, 2006 11:08 AM (GMT)
My faves have been the Keane, Snow Patrol and Razorlight albums, though my latest purchase was AC/DC's live 'If You Want Blood You've Got It.' A trip down memory lane for me I'm afraid!
Andrew :yahoo:
Stewie Griffin - August 9, 2006 05:10 PM (GMT)
For me, very few have really stood out although I have enjoyed Keane, and thought that 'Fundamental' by the Pet Shop Boys was a good return to form. The one I have listened to the most would be 'Victory For The Comic Muse' by The Divine Comedy although its not one of Neil Hannons best.

I put it down to a combination of being a student and Scottish ;)
Just heard Black Holes and Revelations and am really enjoying it so far
Bad Wolf - September 15, 2006 02:11 PM (GMT)
My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade
Angels and Airwaves - We Don't Need To Whisper
Aiden - Nightmare Anatomy
Lostprophets - Liberation Transmission
The Panic Channel - ONe
Looking forward to Linkin Park's new album early 2007 :yahoo:
Chris Quartly - October 30, 2006 03:11 PM (GMT)
Haven't really looked through the thread but for me it's The Flaming Lips with At Way with the Mystics
willowroolz - October 31, 2006 02:18 PM (GMT)
Well now that Opeth's Ghost Reveries has just been re-released in special edition form I can categorically say that it's far and away my album of last year and this year :snooty:  :yahoo:

If it's been re-released isn't it classed as so last year?
My list keeps changing :)
