From Superherohype.com - By Webmaster - 2006-07-28 Favreau Talks More Iron Man Villain (joss whedon mention) Iron Man director Jon Favreau has commented more about the San Diego Comic-Con, the villain and the competition from "James Bond 22" on his official Blog for the movie: I just got back from San Diego. The Marvel panel was great. The crowd seemed to really dig that we hired Adi Granov to help with the suit design. He joined the panel and got an enthusiastic response. He is listed in my top 8 if you want to send him a post. We signed the teaser poster he drew at the Marvel booth until the line was gone. It lasted well over an hour. For those of you who haven’t heard, Mandarin will be the villian. But don’t expect a magical Fu Manchu stereotype. We are taking many liberties to update the villain. He will still size up as Stark’s nemesis, but we’re throwing in a few surprises for the fans of the books.

Not seen it recently, but lets face it, Tony Stark has always been an evil capitalist who basically does what he wants. Wasn't that what the Armour Wars were all about? Tony spits his dummy out and goes around beating up anyone with armour for no reason. Most of my copies of Iron Man come from the late 80's/early 90's, when he looked like a cross between Tom Selleck and David Hasselhoff. Is War Machine still kicking around Jamie? I never thought Tony treated Rhodey very well either.

Terrence Howard is set to join Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man, the superhero movie to be directed by Jon Favreau, Variety reported. Paramount Pictures will release the film on May 2, 2008. Howard will play Jim "Rhodey" Rhodes, the confidante of Iron Man's alter ego, Tony Stark, played by Downey. Rhodes, a high ranking military officer and aviator, steers the team that develops the robotic suit that allows the sickly Stark to fly around and battle bad guys. In the Marvel Comics series on which the film is based, Rhodes' character gets his own armored suit and evolves into an occasionally antagonistic character called War Machine. That development seems likely to be saved for the sequel, though, as Iron Man will battle the villainous Mandarin when shooting begins in February in Los Angeles, the trade paper reported.

In one of the less predictable casting decisions of the year, Gwyneth Paltrow has been picked to star alongside Robert Downey Jr in Iron Man, Marvel's latest superhero movie. Paltrow has never been a superhero's moll before - she's better known for cut glass diction and frilly frocks than X-ray eyes. Nonetheless, she's playing Virginia "Pepper" Potts, secretary to our armoured hero. A clanky romance presumably blossoms. Better stock up on Band-Aids, Gwynn. John Favreau is directing, and the cast also includes Terrence Howard.
