Title: Best/fave Format

What is (in your opinion) the best format for video downloads?

XVid seems pretty shaky for me, so are there any others available, and which would you reccomend? :ponder:

Xvid is pretty universal these days. Nobody posts mpegs anymore.

I've never had much trouble with Xvid/Divx or any of the other avi formats. Movement can be a little jerky on occassion but that's mostly down to sloppy encoding, not the format itself.

I'll wager it's what Paul's said that's your problem, n00bish encoding or maybe a messed up codec(s).

You simply cannot go wrong with the K-Lite Mega Pack (1.53 is the current stable version).

As to the difference between XviD and DivX, I'll always favor XviD as its open source and although there's no real critical difference picture wise, the sarcastic backward name just ever so slightly amuses me ;)

It's best to stick to the better release groups where possible, the below should clear up a few dark areas :)

QUOTE

EZTV and VTV: These are SEEDER Groups ... they do not make the file. They just seed for a little bit to get the files going and then move onto the next file.

SCENE GROUPS: There are many groups. LOL, XOR, LOKi, UMD, aAF, FQM, RiVER, NBS, CTU, VSS, etc ... !! These are some of the many groups that CREATE the file you all want. They deserve all the credit when you get a great copy of a file.

TERMS: PROPER, REPACK, REAL, etc ... : These are terms used by groups.

NUKED - The video is reported to be of bad quality or have damaged scenes.

PROPER - When another group releases a scene for a NUKED scene.

A PROPER can be issued for any number of reasons. Bad encoding, Audio is out of Sync, Video problems, etc .... !!

REPACK - When a groups first release is NUKED a REPACK is issued by the same release group to fix the problem in the original release.

REAL - Every so often groups mess up on file names. REAL is often associated with Episode #'s for TV releases. A REAL is issued after a file name was incorrectly labled.
