Title: The First 4 Episodes

Saw a dvd in HMV today that has the first 4 episodes of STARGATE season 1 on it for only £6 - would it be a good introduction to the series or is this another one where it is season 2 or 3 before it gets going????

At a guess you've not seen a DVD with the first 4 episodes; you've probably seen the 'Volume 1' disc, which includes the feature-length pilot episode, as well as the final 3 episodes of the season.
While these four are good enough as a start point, you may well be better off getting the Season 1 set so you get to see all the episode and see the arc being formed; plus in only getting the best of disc, you're missing several great episodes! :)

I agree with Phillip. Get the Season 1 boxset Ken, only £29.99 in HMV at the moment.
The "Best of" DVD is very good, with not only the superb Pilot episode but the climactic three episodes of the first season, in fact for £6 it's a great little purchase. However, as Phillip has said you'd be missing out on some class episodes, including for my money the best episode of the lot COLD LAZARUS.

THE TORMENT OF TANTULAS is a good episode, but RDA's performance in COLD LAZARUS is second to none ;)

So you dont think buying that disc as a way of finding out if I will like the show is worthwhile then?

It's better than not starting at all, but a better place would be the Season 1 boxset ;)
