Title: 5.16 & 5.17
Description: 2 hour series finale
kicking it old school - May 27, 2006 03:28 PM (GMT)
Warning! Huge Finale Spoilers below!
I know this is in the season 5 spoiler section anyway, but thought I'd just give an extra warning just incase people's curiousity gets the better of them...
:tear: Awww, despite it not really being that great since season 2/3, I'm really sad it's finished. Especially as it had really picked up the last half of this season.
Anyway, on to the episode. It had lots of good things and some less so.. but I was overall quite happy with it. Most people I've come across really hated it, but I thought it was ok... maybe because I wasn't expecting much given the recent quality. And it was a trillion times better than the season 4 finale.. or in fact, any of season 4, which was all terrible..
Just to get the negative bits out of the way: the resolution of Rambaldi's endgame was a bit crap, and didn't really explain much, imo.
- Irina seemed a bit out of character.. I know she's evil, but I did think Sydney was more important to her than Rambaldi/power/world domination etc.. But I guess not.
- No Will. But I don't mind too much about that as we had a Will ep a few weeks ago.
- No fun outfits on the missions :o
Things that were good: - Marshall! Just.. everything about him. His speech to Sloane was fantastic.
- Sark, every second of Sark screentime is pure gold, imo. And I love that he survived. Though his accent seemed very dodgy this episode, I'm sure he used to do it better.
- Sydney shooting Sloane right through the head - that's been several years overdue..
- Peyton being tortured with snakes
- the beach scene at the end, though totally cheesy and yuck, was also quite cute, so I liked it. And awww to Syd's son being named Jack. That made me start crying again..
- Tom being blown up was quite sad, though his final convo with Rachel was sickening
And finally... Jack! :tear: I actually screamed when Sloane shot him. So loud, that my mum came running in thinking I was being murdered.. And then I pretty much wept til the end of the episode  That was absolutely devastating, he's been my favourite character since the first episode. But, in a way I'm glad that they killed him off, the finale needed something like that to make it really powerful. And trapping Sloane underground for the rest of eternity was the perfect punishment for him. And Jack's last line "You beat death, Arvin, but you couldn't beat me" has gone down as my most favourite Alias moment ever. Awesome.

Erm. <_<
Well, there were some good bits. Loved the whole Marshall sequence - I think he`s been sadly neglected this season, so it was great to have lots of Marshall time and for Carrie ( ) to finally find out where he was w**king - something which I`d been hoping they`d do an ep about.
The whole Sydney-Vaughn scene in the mountains was dreadful - this show is ( was ! :tear: ) usually so good about the special effects, but this looked like a 1960`s special effects extravaganza - so unreal.
I thought JG`s acting varied throughout the finale - she was so good - in some scenes excellent - in most of the final ep, but the penultimate ep seemed to suffer from phoning-it-in-itis. <_<
I spoiled on Jack`s death, but I very nearly blubbed when it happened. :tear:
Vaughn in a hoodie had me giggling. Did anyone else think someone needs a hug ??
Yay to seeing Francie again but enough flashbacks !

I was very nearly shocked by his death. Given this series' penchant for never allowing anyone to stay dead I was fully prepared for him to pop up in the final scene shouting out Jack's version of "Surprise!!!"

I`m going to miss Jack. :tear:
I think Living has Victor Garber`s new show.

Since you 2 had told me not to expect too much  my expectations were so low that I actually enjoyed it  Loved all the Marshall stuff and his chance to finally be a hero
I was totally shocked when Jack was shot :o :tear: I had spoiled on some things and read that 3 people would die, one close to Sydney and 2 not so close. I hadn't realised though that it referred specifically to the finale so when Nadia died I assumed that was the close person so I wasn't expecting any saddening deaths in this episode. I was absolutely gutted when I realised Jack wasn't coming back although the way he went out was superb
I didn't quite get why Tom stayed on the train  Was it the guilt over his wife or was it just that he knew he wouldn't have the time to get out?
Not too sure on the flasbacks, they seemed very out of place for the most part but yay for seeing Francie again
I did like the flashforward though  New baby, Jack, awwww  And Isobel being able to put the blocks together like Sydney. A future spin off perhaps :ponder:

Well that was pretty disappointing imo. It wasn’t terrible or anything but after sticking with it all season and after it had improved a bit in the last couple of episodes I thought we might be rewarded with a great finale. I was wrong.
In recent seasons I’ve come to loathe Rambaldi but I was actually quite open-minded and optimistic about it this time ( no really I was I have witnesses ;) ) as I thought that this being the end of the show it wouldn’t be yet another chase for a pointless artifact and that we’d actually get to see the Rambaldi end game and see what all the fuss was about, what the point was and see that it was worth all the effort. It wasn’t.
Not that bringing someone back to life wasn’t cool or anything but I thought the end game was about bringing forth destruction and end of the world stuff, where was that ? The only end of the world stuff was Irina launching those missiles but she could of done that at any time and unless I missed something they had nothing to do with Rambaldi or the Rambaldi device they recovered did it? The thing at the end of S4 was much more impressive at least it did something on a grand scale, I’m so annoyed with myself because I knew Rambaldi would turn out to be a load of :shit: but I let myself get my hopes up. I had assumed that JJ ( or whoever is running the show now ) knew exactly where they were going with the Rambaldi thing but apparently they didn’t which if that’s the case doesn’t bode well for Lost imo.
I did think Marshall was good and I was very glad that Syd got to shoot Sloane and even though he came back being stuck in that tomb alive for eternity was a fitting end for him. I was glad Sark got away, I thought he was going to do a Spike and turn against Sloane & Irina but not quite ( although he did go a bit cockney in the end ). I was sad Jack died :tear: but I was glad he died a hero stopping Sloane.
Oh and after 5 seasons its only just occurred to me but Syd knew Sloane as a child as a family friend but didn’t think it was weird that he turned out to be her boss @ SD6. :ponder:

I didn`t think that made sense - I dimly remember Syd speaking at Emily`s funeral ( was it Season 1 ? ) and saying something about how she ( Syd) was intimidated on her first few days w**king at the bank and how she met Emily who treated her well, oslt.
EDIT - it`s from the first ep of Season 2.... :)

That's one of several reasons why I stopped watching Lost, I must admit :ermm:

Just realised that they didn`t bring back Suitandglasses ( Boo ! Hiss ! :fear: ) for the finale - I`m now doubly disappointed. <_<
Fangy and grrr - July 20, 2006 04:56 PM (GMT)
I was hoping that Weiss would of made some sort of appearance, did he even know Vaughn was alive ?
Come to think of it he wasn't at Nadia's funeral either was he ?

I`m ignoring most of S5 as a plot-holey aberration. So there. :snooty: ;)

I've started watching season 1 again now and it's only watching that that I now see quite how bad season 5 was
Season 1 is just excellent  Can't wait for the never before seen season 2

Stop! I probably won't get to watch any more til next weekend and I'm hopelessly hooked  Part of me wants to rush through it just to see it and part of me wants to take it slowly to savour it
I can't believe I never really noticed Bradley Cooper first time round  Too blinded by Michael Vartan  I'm making the most of him now though  :lmao:

I think the extras for the first 2 seasons are the best.
If you can stop drooling on your keyboard long enough, you can post your thoughts in the review thread. ;)

Finally saw all of season 5 over this weekend, though I spoiled myself many moons ago
Can I demand a rewrite? I want SpyDaddy alive please :tear: Though, Ive gotta say that the way he died was simply awesome.
Im hoping for a spin off with Isabelle Bristow Vaughn, with the family tree that reads like an espionage history book :) How many of her aunts have tried ending the world now?

I don't think Syd knew Sloane before she started working at SD6 but he knew her. But then didn't Sloane say that Syd came to stay with them after her mother 'died'? I'm all confused now
