Title: 1.11 Till The Blood Runs Clear
willowroolz - July 1, 2004 09:50 PM (GMT)
Crichton takes Aeryn out in the Farscape module to investigate some solar flares in the hope of gaining information that could help create a wormhole to take him home. He gets a little more than he bargained for and they are forced to land on the planet below to make repairs. Unfortunately for them, Crais's reach extends even this far into the Uncharted Territories...
willowroolz - July 5, 2004 08:53 AM (GMT)
I like this episode - it's good fun, there's some interesting character development, and there are a few set ups for events that pay off later in the second and third seasons.
I don't like the music! I always find that sf or fantasy set to pseudo-rock music introduces a huge cheese element. The sooner Farscape gets rid of Subvision the better. Which, fortunately, happens quite soon!
To the plus points, the relationships between Crichton and Aeryn, and Crichton and D'Argo move along well, especially the latter as the two finally form a bond. I love the way John puts the Volkari blood trackers on the back foot by assuming the "alpha male" role. Butch and Sundance indeed!
Crichton starts to understand how to create wormholes, a very important development that begins to snowball as we enter the second half of the season.
And Zhaan and her photogasms? :o I love Rygel's line about getting a mop and bucket :lmao:
Rygel: Don't insult my eyes with your naked blue extremities.
Zhaan: Which ones is particular don't you like? Show them to me.
Rygel: No, thank you.... Help! Help! A mad Delvian exhibitionist is forcing herself on me! Visually!

Crais's Wanted beacon was an interesting feature. His message to Aeryn was a useful plot device because the characters have been written in such a way, with Aeryn realising that she can never go back home, that we're still unsure how she will react, and the look on her face makes you think she is actually contemplating his offer.
And then there's Furlow, brilliantly played by Magda Szubanski (of Babe fame), who is wonderfully funny and devious and a bit freaky (it's the eyes).
An entertaining, if slightly more lightweight episode.
Persephone - July 5, 2004 11:30 AM (GMT)
Very good humour in this episode. And good character development.
So now John has an idea of how to create a wormhole, freaky how, without even a second thought, he'd have flown straight into it, So now we have 4 characters, who would probably stop at nothing to get home, regardless of anyone else on Moya.
Butch and Sundance, LOL. How funny was it seeing Aeryn pretending to be submissive. Although I felt very uncomfortable when John stepped up to torture D'Argo some more, i understand he had to do it, for the blood blah, blah blah, but still, eewwwh
Are there any other ways for the writers to elude, even more, that Zhaan is a total nymphomaniac
I loved the Crais beacon idea, and Aeryn tapping in to receive a personal message from Crais. I really thought for a second, she'd take the offer up. She was seriously pondering it.
The mad mechanic, what a great character, although is every guest star in Farscape, Australian or something?

They tend to be! The show is/was made in Sydney. It's nice to know that there are still some Aussies living over there rather than in London!! Still, it makes a change from every alien race having American accents

John: This isn't gonna work, is it? We're never going be friends.
D'Argo: Friendship is a lot to ask.
John: Then how about respect?
Beautiful male bonding moment :D
willowroolz - July 5, 2004 12:39 PM (GMT)
The little swell of emotional music when they shook hands amused me - talk about signposting a significant moment :D
melian - July 5, 2004 12:45 PM (GMT)
LOL!! I know what you mean.

 I love this episode, it grows on me all the time.
Furlow is a brilliant character.
Love the goggles, they really don't want to be wearing them do they, someone else must do to as they have a few appearances later.
Love the beacon idea. It is a very Mad Max style episode with a mixture of technology and junk and also the locals remind me of the sand people from Star Wars.
Love Aeryn being temporarily blind and fighting blind
love Aeryn having to be submissive, John laps that up.
I like the idea that D'Argo can't get past that John looks like a sebacian and also Peacekeeper, his reasons become clear in later episodes.
Love the Volkari and the way that John outwits them.
Love the desert terrain, visually another great episode making the most of the Australian surroundings.
Big

And of course it's a very important episode in terms of characters who will return in much more significant stories later in the series. :)

 Most excellent too
I hope you aren't referring to PK Wars there Steve

I was referring to seasons 2 and 3 as you well know :P

Not quite sure what to make of this one. For an episode that heralded Crichton's first steps towards wormhole technology and an understanding of sorts being reached between Crichton and D'Argo, I wasn't much for it.
Don't know why, the only thing that springs to mind again comes down to a few of the characters. Rorf (Worf ??) and Rorg p*ssed me off no end. Being alien is one thing, but playing them as a pair of essentially mentally challenged bounty hunters just didn't w**k for me at all.
Another amusing story of note was Zhaan's reaction to the solar flares. Wonder what happens if she's ever around when a star goes nova ??
I liked the Tatooine-esque setting, and the visuals of the giant construction that they visit to get the ship repaired were impressive.
Furlow I could take or leave, the manner of speech was different, but generally, the character irritated me, probably because I suspected that she was pulling the usual dodgy mechanic trick of scamming Crichton all along
Not a bad episode by any stretch of the imagination, and it certainly had it's moments, just not enough of them IMO.
willowroolz - January 11, 2005 08:03 PM (GMT)
It'll be interesting, should you ever come back and watch these episodes again, to see how later events affect your view of this one, James. It's very important, in several ways. :)
Crichton Kicks - January 11, 2005 10:26 PM (GMT)
I'm assuming Crichton's 'turning over' of his Wormhole technology readings will have some ramifications further down the line.
Please don't tell me that the Chuckle Brothers come back.....
willowroolz - January 12, 2005 08:48 AM (GMT)
I'm not answering anything, you'll find out ;)

It is an episode that has continually grown on me. I think that when you go back after watching the rest of the seasons you definitely get more from it.
:)

Not a chance
Tell you what, Phillip, when you've watched Farscape from start to finish three times (i.e. the same number of times I've watched B5) then I may listen to you. :p

I just didn't want to add any spoilers for those who haven't seen all the seasons yet. Like many episodes there are repercussions further down the line.
Of course I would always recommend Farscape to anyone

Farscape's continuity is superb. During the rewatch of these early stories I noticed so many hints and inferences to the big events later on. Episodes like this one definitely benefit from repeat viewing after following the show all the way through. :)
