Title: Anyone Up For A Resurrection?
jamiearmour - April 23, 2006 10:21 AM (GMT)
Of this Rewatch idea I mean?
It seems to have got off to such a promising start, then died a slow and lingering death. :(
I thought I'd ask while the Doctor's popularity is at a peak. So come on, who's up for it?
Phillip Culley - April 23, 2006 02:36 PM (GMT)
Yes - I had ben thinking that something needed to be done with it after it kind of died a death...
So, any requests for a first story? Genesis of the Daleks comes to mind with the brand new DVD release, but I don't know just how many people here get the new discs...
jamiearmour - April 23, 2006 05:05 PM (GMT)
I was thinking of maybe doing it at a UKGold pace. They are showing Planet of the Spiders next Sunday, so Tom's great reign begins the week after (minus Genesis of course  ) That would mean there is no need for any financial outlay for anyone (well, with the exception of you Phillip, unless your VHS collection went to Canada with you  )

Well, I didn't take the whole collection with me (just the DVDs as I have an R2 compatiable player, and they're easily portable in a CD bag), however thanks to bit torrent I do have a complete DVD collection now (as far as I'm concerned I've bought the videos already, and I know I'm getting the DVDs as they come out :))
However I think you're out of luck, as I seem to remember reading that the Who repeats on UK Gold are coming to an end - next week is The Monster of Peladon and Planet of the Spiders, the following week is The Twin Dilemma and Trial 13 and 14, and then there's nothing on... :(
jamiearmour - April 23, 2006 08:25 PM (GMT)
Oh my God :o :tear:
And could they have picked two worse stories to go out on? <_<
Phillip Culley - April 30, 2006 02:31 AM (GMT)
So, anyone else up for this?
Or is it just Jamie and me... :)
Dan Brown - May 1, 2006 04:53 PM (GMT)
I'm up for it, but my Who collection is quite limited.....but I'll just watch the ones I've got when you watch them and ignore the rest.

Well, I know I've got a complete collection, and I'm pretty sure Jamie's collection is fairly complete (plus I'm sure I can get my brother roped in, and he has my VHS collection back in England), so how's about you suggest one to get the ball rolling as it were :)

A collection of predominatly black and white episodes - a true sign of taste :)
And you have Lost in Time, with the true classic The Underwater Menace: Episode 3 :)

Aw, bless you.
Although that`s mainly due to UK Gold repeating plenty of eps from the Third Doctor onwards and neglecting the lovely Patrick Troughton, forcing the purchase of said DVDs. :whistling:
Love the storylines for the older episodes, such imagination. My Lost in Time DVD is out on loan, but there was a great episode on there with the first sight of Victoria and a story about the Tardis getting lost in an antique shop, oslt.

Are you aware of the fan-made reconstructions, which use the existing off-air soundtrack plus off-air screenshots (amongst other things) to recreate the missing episodes (albeit on the most part it's a glorified slideshow)?

Are those the ones which the Beeb Culty Board had ?
I watched one of them to fill in the gaps of one of the Lost in Time eps - can`t remember the name of the story, but it was the one where the Tardis touched down at the airport and they investigate missing passengers - Liverpudlian thingy who just played Queen Victoria was in it, I think. :)

T'would be The Faceless Ones (with The Evil of the Daleks (the other episode you mentioned) following it) :)
Basically what you're seeing on the BBC site is the telesnaps (the off-screen photos) - what the fan-made reconstructions do is to marry those up with the missing episode soundtrack, add a few things (like existing clips and so on) and end up with a finished approximation of the episde :)

Ah, thank you. I had a look at some ep. guides but couldn`t w**k out the name of those episodes. :)
Haven`t heard of those fan reconstructions - I live in hope that all the missing eps will appear one day.

Well, the beeb have enlisted the help of blue peter viewers now, so they'll no doubt be trawling "bring and buy" sales all over the world looking for lost episodes now
All of their grandads old film cans will be getting ripped open, just to check for that elusive ep of Dalek Masterplan
We can only live in hope can't we?
Oh, P.S. Yep, I've got nearly every DVD (I've avoided the Colin Baker releases, with the exception of Revelation of the Daleks) for obvious reasons  So whatever story we pick, I'm more than up for it.
Except for Shada. My VHS set of this went missing when i moved house a few years back
Dan Brown - May 1, 2006 11:34 PM (GMT)
Well I don't really know what to suggest....I suppose those with complete collections would like to start the rewatch from the beginning....An Unearthy Child...but as I don't have that story or any Hartnell stories I can't get involved until Patrick Troughton which I don't mind of course.
I was thinking about picking up Genesis of The Daleks just the other day though......
Or we could start with the best Cybermen story released on DVD....Tomb of The Cybermen.....
I list what I have in no particular order and some of which I haven't even watched
Lost in Time
Tomb Of The Cybermen
The Three Doctors
The Green Death
Doctor Who And The Silurians
The Ark In Space
Pyramids Of Mars
Warriors Of The Deep
The Talons Of Weng Chiang
Earthshock
The Visitation
The Caves Of Androzani
Revelation Of The Daleks
Ghostlight
The Five Doctors
Kinda
Time Flight
The Arc Of Infinity
The Kings Demons
Terminus
Frontier In Space
Spearhead From Space
The Android Invasion
Planet Of Evil
Resurrection Of The Daleks
Terror Of The Zygons
The Monster Of Peladon
Snakedance
Nightmare Of Eden
The Seeds Of Doom
The Horror Of Fang Rock
The Robots Of Death
The Carnival Of Monsters
Silver Nemesis
The Happiness Patrol (I am not prepared to watch this again though!!!! Bought as a birthday present which soon became an unwanted birthday present).
and a few more my brother has.....

Ditto....although I was tempted on getting The Two Doctors on DVD...but at the time was £19.99 and didn't want to risk it, at that price. I don't even think Patrick Troughton and Frazer Hines can make up for the presence of Colin Baker.

Yep - it was released at the end of last year :)
It's well worth getting (it's one of my top 10 Who stories, and is amongst the most popular stories) - plus you get a double-disc package with lots of extras so it's definitly worth having in your collection :)

Couldn't find a copy of it in Sutton, where I live, but when I go into Uni tomorrow in Kingston, I'll take a look around the shops there for it....I'm sure they'll have a copy of it somewhere there.
Anyone know if any shops got any deals on Doctor Who DVDs???

Yeah...£11.99 seems to be the cheapest I've seen it for.....
It might take a few days for delivery....if we want to get the ball rolling now, can I suggest possibly The Ark In Space.....I have a hankering for a Sarah Jane Smith story......
