Hi All

My laptop has developed a problem, whenever i switch on it comes to a blue screen stating windows has been shut down to due corrupt file caused by a new application or software, restart in safe mode.

Have tried to do this many times but i get the same message in safe mode and windows will not load,

I have not loaded any new software or applications, i need to get it fixed as it is my dads computer.

Any ideas

Maybe you need to do a repair install of windows, where any system files found to be corrupt are replaced.

how would i go about doing that?

The lap top was 2nd hand with xp already loaded on it so do not have any discs?

To do that you do need a Windows install disc, failing that has your comp got a recovery partition (which would contain a mirror of the factory installation) that would get things running again but might destroy any programme data.
