Title: Star Trek Movies Dvd's Are Crap.

Yep, that's right. You read correctly.

Our Lord and Master, the All powerful owner of the Radio Times guide to Scifi has spoken.

I've just bought the ten movies on DVD!

I'm a little disappointed with them. ST2 has faded a little compared to my VHS copy. The titles were not as blue, nor the uniforms as maroon. Vulcan was not as orange, either! Never mind, in another few years, when they release them on on high definition, they'll probably recolour them.

The only one that they had signifcantly changed, was TMP. I think all the bits they took out, they should have added. Good thing they have a section were they show all the deleted scenes! The wormhole sound effect was not as disorientating and the exploson was not as good.

It'll take me a while to watch all the documentaries! Has anyone else bought them, and what do they think of them?

Then came this little beauty.

have you actually seen the DVD's of ST2,3 and 4?
My VHS copies were done in 1991. The DVD's were probably taken from the film masters in 2001 plus. The DVD's are ten years older. The film would have faded by then. I know this to be true because I have a photo-op taken with Deforest Kelley in 1986. It has faded and I had to have it recoloured.
  :o

Carl has had DVD technology since 1981 according to that :o

So, because the DVD's aren't as bright and colourful as his photo of Deforest Kelley (which he probably recoloured with crayons) the DVD's are crap.

That's it.

They're all going onto ebay tonight :snooty:

Perhaps I won't finish off my SE collection with Nemesis then

Is this little Turdburger still around then Jamie. I though he's died with the Beeb boards :fear:

Lol, good to see our lovable old friend is still alive and kicking!

Where did you find those gems Jamie? Would love to see The Carlmeister in action again!

Andrew :yahoo:

He trolls about on the trek forums HERE.

My God, he's still such a laugh a minute.

Apparently when a film is digitally remastered for DVD release, they only rework the soundtrack, and the actual images come directly from the faded original master copy of the film

But this is the word/world of Carl, so maybe that's the way it is over there. I'm even more glad I don't live there now

jamiearmour - March 24, 2006 05:42 PM (GMT)
I am Defiant yes, and Dr Noah is, well, Dr Noah

He's a f*cking muppet, but he's technically right on this occasion. The SE's didn't have their pictures remastered, just the audio. Which surprised me I must admit. That being said they still weren't based on the original copy either, they were using the same transfer as they used for the old laserdisc widescreen releases. Which puts paid to his "film deteriorates" bollocks.

While we're on the subject of Trek DVDs, watch out for the soon to be re-released budget TNG DVD sets. They're about £35 a season but they're bare bones releases. Whereas Fox have re-released The X Files and Angel/Buffy exactly the same as the original releases, just with different packaging, Paramount have decided that we can all whistle for any extras. Episodes only. W*nkers. Especially considering that you can probably still pick up the original DVD sets for a bargain now anyway and get the extras.

It's nice to know that while some things change, Carl will always be a berk :)

How interesting with the TNG sets - over here TNG S1-3 and DS9 S1-3 have just been releaseased at the equivalent of 35 quid each, however these are straight re-releases of the original sets...

Sounds like we're getting ripped off again. Good ol' Paramount, nothing ever changes
