Title: The Elder Scrolls Iv: Oblivion
goth willow fan - March 14, 2006 02:48 PM (GMT)
Is coming out (finally :yahoo: ) on the 24th.
Is anyone else looking forward to this as much as I am?
Everything I've read so far, both in PC and XBox360 mags has been universally enthusiastic and extremely positive (apart from one gripe about the NPC ambient conversation AI).
The only drawback is probably the specs needed to fully appreciate the PC version.
willowroolz - March 14, 2006 02:54 PM (GMT)
I've got the 360 version on pre-order, can't wait
Went for Game's exclusive version, probably not worth it but it looks shiny :)
goth willow fan - March 14, 2006 03:03 PM (GMT)
I've got the PC version on preorder. Graphically it should blow even the 360 out of the water on a decent spec-ed machine, and if it's moddable like Morrowind was, user designed content is assured.
willowroolz - March 14, 2006 03:11 PM (GMT)
Must admit that stuff doesn't really bother me - I'm just thankful not to have to upgrade my pc to play it
goth willow fan - March 14, 2006 03:16 PM (GMT)
The user modded armour and weapons were quite impressive and there were some excellent mods that changed the looks of entire towns (including making the capital almost twice it's original size).
willowroolz - March 21, 2006 10:11 AM (GMT)
It's been despatched
goth willow fan - March 21, 2006 10:16 AM (GMT)
Don't you dare get it early! :01:
:ph43r:
willowroolz - March 21, 2006 10:22 AM (GMT)
They've probably sent it 2nd class, so that it turns up Friday morning :)
Either that or they've sent it Special Delivery - in which case I'll never see it
goth willow fan - March 21, 2006 10:26 AM (GMT)
I must say my anticipation level of getting my mits on it is building to pant wettingly high levels!
It had better be good! :ph43r:
willowroolz - March 21, 2006 11:19 AM (GMT)
Well, I'm looking forward to it, but not to that level
The
special edition looks quite sexy, though :ph43r:
goth willow fan - March 21, 2006 11:25 AM (GMT)
I'll more than likely be getting the super duper PC edition :)
prophecy girl - March 21, 2006 11:52 AM (GMT)

goth willow fan - March 23, 2006 03:56 PM (GMT)
The time is nearly upon us   :D :fear:
willowroolz - March 23, 2006 05:41 PM (GMT)
It's arrived!! :yahoo:
Just doing the character creation :ponder:
Edit:
WOW!!! :o :o :o
Have escaped from the prison and am now having a wonder around the Imperial City. Now, to follow the plot or head off and explore... :)
So what race, class etc did you choose for your character? :ponder:
Mine's a male Redguard named (wait for it) Starbuck
Birthsign: The Lady
Class: Nightblade
willowroolz - March 29, 2006 07:53 AM (GMT)
Okay, so I've now got three characters on the go, can't decide which one I like best...
The one above, plus:
Race: Imperial
Class: Spellsword
Birthsign: The Lady (again  )
and
Race: Dark Elf
Class: Battlemage
Birthsign: The Thief
:ponder:
None of them have made it out of the Imperial City yet, apart from a couple of dungeons up the hill opposite the exit from the sewers - cos I just had to see what was on the other side of that hill, as you do
goth willow fan - March 30, 2006 08:44 AM (GMT)
I'm a Wood Elf.
Class: Agent
Professions - Thief and Assassin. Both use much the same skills so are quite complimentary - even though they are morally dimetrically opposed :shifty:
Major weapon proficiency - Marksman, being an Elf you really have to use Bows don't you and assassination from a distance is so much... cleaner
prophecy girl - March 30, 2006 10:06 AM (GMT)
race: breton
class: agent
birthsign: the lady
the old remain of the temple (when out of the prison) was a nice place apart for the archer :ermm:

*** Just a quick note now the game is out and we're playing it. No quest spoilers please. General talk about character types and none quest specific locations is fine :)***

I take it you're good with a blade as well :ponder:
Don't think I've managed to kill anyone with bow and arrow yet. I hit them, they run at me, I spend a few seconds fumbling around to change weapons (I know where the quick key is to do it, I can just never find it when I need it  ) while the enemy tw@ts me gleefully in my vulnerable state
Mind you, that bucket that you get to fire your first arrow at has taken one hell of a beating B)
goth willow fan - March 30, 2006 10:38 AM (GMT)
Well I'm pretty handy with a poisened dagger :shifty: :whistling:

Yeah, but what about your character?
goth willow fan - March 30, 2006 10:57 AM (GMT)
One thing that's a bit odd with arrows is that headshots don't count for anything. :ermm:
You can shoot someone straight through the head and it won't slow them down
I do like the way that arrows stay stuck in bodies, wood etc and you can go and pick them up to use again :)

Yeah, that's very good. I also love the way bodies stay in the game world, even if you go to another area and come back they're still there where they fell

Although other characters don't seem particularly concerned when they walk into a room to find their husband/wife etc dead after one of my successful clean up operations
prophecy girl - March 30, 2006 11:14 AM (GMT)
you can steal normal people stuff with them around but you can't steal guards stuff with them around .... (and it was only a potato ... jail for that ... overeacting much)

:lmao: Obviously they weren't happily married
The only thing which does have a habit of pulling me out of the game world is when NPCs dissolve into thin air when they approach a door. I'm surprised, considering how much effort has gone into the rest of the game, that they couldn't manage a door opening/closing animation for NPCs travelling between areas
I love this. It reminds me so much of the Elite/Frontier games with its go anywhere, do anything approach. The hours I spent outside space stations in Frontier waiting to assassinate my target, ah happy days
prophecy girl - March 31, 2006 09:23 AM (GMT)
how do you repell a ghost? :ponder:
goth willow fan - March 31, 2006 09:37 AM (GMT)
You need an enchanted weapon of some sort.
prophecy girl - March 31, 2006 09:40 AM (GMT)
right ... thank .... well i don't plan to go back kick its/his ass anytime soon anyway <_<
the elf own ghost is a good way to block the other ghost ........... but only for a short time but hey as long the bad one doesn't follow you outside the cave after you took what he was "protecting"
willowroolz - April 3, 2006 07:27 AM (GMT)
Was having great fun being an amateur sleuth in Chorrol yesterday - love the persuasion mini-game
goth willow fan - April 3, 2006 08:25 AM (GMT)
I think the persuation game is a pain in the butt - repetitive and once you know the mechanics very easy.
willowroolz - April 3, 2006 08:38 AM (GMT)
Maybe that's why I liked it
I'd never tried it until yesterday, so after a while it probably will get irritating :ponder:
prophecy girl - April 4, 2006 10:52 AM (GMT)
i haven't been in the imperial city yet (well i did but not with the elf character) ............ went all around the lake, lots of place to visit, bad guys to kill , help people (bravil has the weirdest help request ... help a guy trapped in his own dream)
willowroolz - April 5, 2006 08:03 AM (GMT)
Decided to have some fun creating a custom class last night, so I started again :ph43r:
Now my character is a male Wood Elf called Elathorn (very original, I know) and the class is called Ranger (even more original, I'm sure you agree :ph43r:  ). He's a marksman specialising in stealth, with blade and conjuration abilities thrown in for good measure. I also added the security skill cos I'm so crap at picking locks
So I escaped from prison, headed off towards Weynon Priory and used his super sneak and marksman skill in Sinkhole Cave. Totally different way of playing to my previous attempts (where I just ran up and twatted everything  ), I love it!
I'm not copying your character, Paul, honest

Hmmm... :ermm:
Actually not because the character I'm playing now has no sneak or bow skills to speak of and relies on lobbing fireballs at baddies and then whacking them with a pointy stick until he has enough energy to lob more fireballs
btw a high security doesn't make locks particularly easier, the best technique is to watch how the tumblers react after poking them a few times. A fast drop is always followed by a slow drop so if you get the timing right you can open most locks fairly easily B) :p
prophecy girl - April 5, 2006 10:40 AM (GMT)
well i am part of the fighter guild and mages guild ... kinda help if you want to find a bed (without having to pay)

Oh okay, I thought the higher your security skill the slower the tumblers moved, up to a certain level. That's what it said in the description when I was selecting the major skills for my character, anyways :ermm:
Anyway, I'm happy with the sneak and marksman skills - being able to snipe and get one-shot kills from the shadows is hilarious   :ph43r:
prophecy girl - April 5, 2006 10:18 PM (GMT)
as much as i like the imperial guard patrolling (very useful when you have some "demons" chasing you and you gonna die if they give you one more punch), what character, skills or level do you need to defeat one of them ... i tried direct attack, sneaky attack, ..... i just wanna an uniform .......... and ok the horse :ponder:

It does make a difference but not really that much.
