    McCallum Talks "Wars"
Turning up at last night's Sony Ericsson Empire Awards, "Star Wars" producer Rick McCallum confirmed that the Star Wars TV show is a go - "That's not going to happen probably for another year and a half while we develop scripts and everything else. But it's fantastic; we've got some incredible writers. It's going to be much darker, much more character-based, and I think it's going to be everything the fans always wanted the prequels to be. They'll be one-hour episode. It takes place between Episodes III and IV. It's going to be all-new characters, maybe a few bounty hunters in there to start the series off".

Lucas is currently penning the script for his long-cherished World War II fighter pilots film "Red Tails" before sending it out to other writers towards years end and then gets filming on it next year.

Wonder if this will be more similar to Battlestar. Sort of more grounded in 'reality'.
It has to segway into Ep III anyway.
I definately still think we'll be seeing an older Fett.
Even if they just make reference to the established characters I'd be happy with that.
Afterall, its more Star Wars, which (Gunguns apart) can only be a good thing.

as long as it's a much darker more adult based series it could be good and the less input from Lucas the better. Maybe if they can make the series more like Farscape with wonderfully creative worlds, Aliens and CGI /special-effects along with strong dark adult storylines and a great cast we could be in for a treat.

To be honest I have gone a little cold off the idea and the thought of it being on Fox means it's either going to be great and cancelled, or they're going to cock it up and the seasons will keep getting renewed. Either way I'll definitely be tuning in at my earliest opportunity. :)

I don't think of FOX as Cancelville anymore. The have a new chief and they are doing very well in the ratings department, which should make them more patient with shows that aren't doing well but show potential.

I watched an interview with Lucas the other day and he said the tv show would visit the minor characters and maybe spend an episode each on them.

I'll definitely watch it although I can't help but think I'll be disappointed

Anything which says STAR WARS in the title is already a hit...look at the extremely poor prequel films, poorly received by quite a few fans of the original trilogy (and the ones who say they liked it are obviously in denial) and poorly reviewed by critics still making about 300 million dollars.

So if its good people will watch and if its bad people will Still watch...Fox have a winner here I don't see how it could lose.....

I reckon we will see Bobba Fett but definately not Han Solo.
You can't get anyone to impersonate Ford.
Maybe we'll see the Millenium Falcon being built or flown by a young Lando.

From what I've heard only a few 'minor' characters from the films are going to appear.

I don't know what constitutes minor...but I would say that Lando is quite a major character, so maybe he won't appear but who knows.

Hopefully the broadcasting of this show can kick-start more sci-fi on TV?

What Cult/sci-fi/supernatural series are currently running on Fox? And which ones are not performing very well?

me too but preferably quality sci-fi, the last thing we need is another star Trek Voyager or enterprise or Kev Trek.

you're probably right but I'm more concerned about us losing out. I just hope they look at the cream of sci-fi and create something worthwhile. Not some crappy, disposable, kiddy , episode of the week drivel.

I was thinking about this last night wondering what they're going to do with the series. After all they are very limited with what they can and can't show. We are not going to see any decent Jedi verses Sith light sabre battles because they can only be two, a master and his apprentice. I suppose it's possible we may see the emperor and/or Darth Vader at some point but will we see any Jedi Masters?

I suppose we may see a series something similar to Firefly (obviously it's not going to be anywhere near as good) with a crew of smugglers or something similar, just trying to make a living under the rule of the evil empire? Possibly using the Millennium Falcon as their ship?

Star Wars series to run and run
The TV series spin-off of the Stars Wars film franchise will run to at least 100 episodes, according to producer Rick McCallum.
He told BBC Radio 1 the writing team would soon be meeting to start on the project, which would begin filming in 2008 and be ready the same year.

"Hopefully if we can make it w**k and everybody's excited and watches it we will keep on going," said McCallum.

The series will be set between episodes three and four of the film saga.

It would cover the 20 years in the life of Luke Skywalker growing up that remains a mystery to most film-goers.

McCallum said there would be "a whole bunch of new characters" and the series would be "much more dramatic and darker".

Huge franchise

He added that it was unlikely any of the stars of the movies would be involved in the TV series.

Star Wars creator George Lucas has just completed writing the script for the next Indiana Jones film and will then begin w**k on Red Tails, about African-American pilots in World War II.

Following completion of that film, w**k will begin on the Star Wars TV series.

There has already been a Star Wars series spin-off in the shape of the animated Clone Wars, which began as three-minute episodes before they were expanded to 30-minute shows.

Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, released in 2005, marked the end of the end of the Star Wars saga on the big screen.

It became the biggest film franchise in history, with the final film alone taking £500m at the box office outside of the US.

oh CRAP! <_<

2008!

that means IF it is made and released by 2008 and assuming Battlestar Galactica is still running, the Star Wars series may only go head-to-head for one season ( assuming they don't put back the date even further ), as it will be Battlestar Galactica's fifth-year and quite possibly the last. Meaning if there's nothing decent running against the Star Wars series the level of quality won't be so high because there's no competition. IMO DS 9 was no doubt improved because it was going head-to-head with Babylon 5. This is bad news in my humble opinion. :(

Who knows it right run like Battlestar might run like Stargate, for 10 years?

And who knows there might be other fantastic TV SCi-Fi shows starting in 2008?
