Title: Favourite Film
TV Crazy - February 12, 2006 07:46 PM (GMT)
What's your favourite film(s)? and why if you have a reason?
At the moment mine is Serenity - waiting for DVD 27th Feb. It used to be Independence Day.
Hope this hasn't been done recently - couldn't find it in the last 5 pages, haven't got time to look through all 19.
Ems :)

Serenity
it used to be Dune (the filming was great, the story was great, the actors/characters a little lame but never mind)
after that: alien, kill bill one and two, seven, garden state, leon, ET, .....

Very hard to say. I love Play It Again Sam. Woody Allen was brilliant at least for a time.(maybe up to Crimes and Misdemeanours)
I grew up with the original Star Wars films so they count as something special.
Of recent times I am not sure. Fight Club showed genius with its take on the perils of Nietzschean self-expression.
The Truman Show blew me away. As well as being brilliantly amusing there were also comments about the meaninglessness of celebrity and the manipulation of reality.
Aliens SE remains probably the best outer space war movie ever made. I suppose there is competition from the outstanding Starship Troopers which was, as The Sunday Times put it, a crazed satire on fascism, warmongering and the American way.
Of older films I recall A Man Escaped and The Trials of Joan of Arc as being engaging. I saw a film a few years ago called L'eau Froid which I loved.
I also loved William Petersen in his pre-CSI days especially To Live and Die in LA and Manhunter which is in a different league to the later films. sk

Blade Runner - the Director's Cut (though strictly it isn't) without the voice over and "happy" ending.
Just a great multi layered story brilliantly filmed with effects etc that still look good today.

Girl, Interrupted.
Dunno why I like it so much.. just do. I guess I find it quite interesting, and strangely comforting   I've seen plenty of better films, but am really quite attached to it, so while it's definitely my favourite film, it's not the best film I've ever seen. If that makes sense...

I'm a huge fan of the LOTR trilogy (ROTK is my favourite out of the three) so I suppose that's my favourite film. I loved the characters and I remember coming out of the cinema after FOTR and not feeling like it had been three hours, I was that immersed in the world PJ had brought to the screen.
But Empire Records has to be high up there too, it's a film that always cheers me up when I'm feeling low. I love the characters, they don't really fit in and I relate to them quite well.

My top 3 are Aliens, Star Wars and LA Confidential. Can't, and won't, choose between them. Aliens, because it is such a great rollercoaster ride, a real adrenalin rush. Star Wars because it made such a huge impression on me when I was 12 years old and is still a joy to watch. LA Confidential because it's one of those movies where I went into the cinema not knowing what to expect and found it so involving that I didn't want it to end - superb writing, acting and direction from start to finish, and a film that rewards repeat viewing :)

Ditto but in recent years I've also named Dogma.
I also love Gross Pointe Blank and more recently Sin City.

I just can't decide between 'Star Wars', 'The Empire Strikes Back', 'Heaven Can Wait', 'A Matter Of Life And Death', 'Serenity' and 'K-Pax'.

Tough one :ponder: I was already a Sci-Fi book fan when Starwars first hit the screens, and totally blew me away....but as for a favourite........
Think I would have to do it by genre.......
Comedy - would have to be 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail'........with Steve Martins 'Dead men dont wear plaid' a distant second......
Action/shootemup - 'Aliens SE' still is probably my fav! with mentions for 'Saving private Ryan', and 'Zulu'!
Epic - The Lord of the rings trilogy takes some beating......
Other - Still love 'Casablanca', and Ken Brannagh's 'Henry V'....
But, if I had to pick just the one.......then just for the sheer ammount of times I've watched it.....and still enjoy it......its got to be 'Holy grail'

Impossible to say, although Moulin Rouge and Barefoot in the Park would be up there :)

For me it would have to be Empire of the Sun - a poignant film about a privileged English boy growing up in Shanghai. After the events of Pearl Harbour he is separated from his parents and thrown into a Japanese War Camp where he struggles to survive - brilliant, Spielberg at his best.

I've got three - The Crow, Leon and the newly added Walk The Line.
The Crow because it really is a w**k of art, seen it more times than I care to remember. Leon because it pwns, the acting is brilliant. And although I've only seen it twice, Walk The Line because I find the whole Johnny Cash story really interesting, plus I like most of his music. Seen a lot of documentaries on him and it's nice to have a really good film to watch, downloaded it the other day and its brilliant! :)

I don't really have a favourite film. I have tons of films I really like/love but a few of my all-time favourites Terminator/Terminator 2, Aliens, Top Gun, John Woo's the Killer, Leon, Spy Game, the Last Boy Scout, Pulp Fiction, From Dusk till Dawn and Kill Bill volume 1. Kill Bill volume 1 is probably one of my favourite more recent films as I have seen it six times in the last two years.
Not exactly my favourite but I have a soft spot for Brokedown Palace with the wonderful Clare Danes and one I'm currently waiting to be released on DVD, Beyond Rangoon starring Patricia Arquette.

Moulin Rouge? But do you turn the DVD off at chapter 32 so it has a happy ending...? :)

I must be really shallow compared to you lot as you've all picked interesting films!!!
I have had the same fave film since 1987 and I am sticking with it!
Dirty Dancing  I know, I know but I can't help it. In my defence I haven't actually watched it for about four years.
Second fave is Ghost. (OK, you can kick me off the board now. :ph43r:
I do really like Terminator 2 and the Crow so surely I get a few points for that?
