I hope you enjoy this. It's been a labour of love. Karen, Alex. Tell me what you think of this version compared to the one you've seen already.
From the Diary of Buffy Summers.
“Define normal. Go on. I dare you! You can’t can you? Nobody can, so how can I be sure that this isn’t normal? Shades of my past are coming back to bite me in the ass. Literally, if Pike has his way. My sister is really an extra-dimensional portal opening key thing. My best friend is the most powerful witch this side of creation. And I kill demons and vampires for a living. Well, I don’t even make a living out of it because nobody pays me. Am I the only one here who thinks that’s a total bitch of an existence?”
Original Sinner.
Part 1.
“So Summers. You came?”
“Obviously.”
“Much gladness fills me.”
“Hmmpfff.”
“Enough with the Haiku crap!”
“Not your business Dawnie. Stay clear.”
“No. You’re arguing with Pike. Why are you arguing with Pike?”
“I’m not arguing with Pike.”
“Uhm, not wanting to rain on your delusional parade, but you and he are waxing laconic, and with the exception of Oz, that means arguments ahoy.”
Dawn stared petulantly at both her sister and Pike.
“Who’s your little firebrand bodyguard Summers, I like her already.” Pike smiled.
“It’s me. Dawn. Don’t you remember? We shared a burger, the day that Buffy got expelled and almost arrested for burning the school down? You know? L.A?”
“Never met you before today pumpkin.” Pike responded.
“But how?” Dawn looked genuinely hurt and confused by Pike’s statement.
"Dawnie? Head back to the van. I want to talk to Pike alone." Buffy turned to her sister, "I meant now Dawn." Buffy could see the pain etched on her sister's features, and wanted so much to reach out to her, but something stopped her. Dawn turned, tears forming in her eyes.
"Wow. What a sweetie. Kinda reminds me of you. Back before you became supergirl and all." Pike looked Buffy up and down, now that they were alone in the alley, he could focus on her. He picked up on the anger in her eyes immediately.
"She's my sister Pike." Buffy took a step towards her old friend. "My kid sister, so watch what you say about her."
"I'm not a kid!" The shout came from a little way up the alley.
"The van Dawn. Now!" Was Buffy's only response to her sister's eavesdropping. "But she's not why we're here, is she?" The question and her eyes were aimed directly at Pike.
"Not exactly. It's kinda the end of the world. Again."
"Crap." Replied Buffy. "I just got a car loan." Buffy half smiled.
"You don't seem entirely shocked by this news Summers." Pike added, "Something you know that I don't?"
"Apocalypses come and go. Been there, done that." Buffy replied, nonchalance oozed from her words.
"But people usually die in Apocalypses." Pike thought about what he had just said and added, "can you even pluralise that word?"
"I don't wanna get into that discussion again. As for the death issue. I've done that twice, I'm bored with it now."
"Oh." Was the only response Pike could manage.
A few streets away.
Anya screamed.
"Anya? What's wrong?" Tara turned to her friend.
Anya's eyes were wide with terror, and focussed entirely on Xander. "An. I only said, it could have been worse. It could have been a giant bunny that came through the portal." Anya's scream intensified. Miss Kitty yowled in sympathy with the noise.
"We came seeking the warriors." One of the women who had accompanied Miss Kitty Fantastico through the portal spoke.
"Uhm, warriors?" Willow replied uncertainty in her voice.
"This being. This cat, spoke to us of great warriors residing in this world, warriors that could perhaps prevent the coming cataclysm."
Xander started giggling. "You said CATaclysm, and there's a big cat right there. I'm gonna be quiet now." Xander looked cowed by the eyes that focussed on him. Willows attention returned to the woman who had spoken.
"Cataclysm?" She asked.
"The barriers between worlds have become fractured. Energies and creatures are leaping from reality to reality. This, cat, as you call her, came through such a fracture, just in time to save our world from another incursion from a creature so hideous we have no words to describe it. It fled our world. We fear it has come here now."
"Your fears are well founded bitch." The voice resonated around the alley as hands, such giant hands, grabbed the woman from the darkness and ripped her head from her shoulders. Silencing her forever.
Miss Kitty Fantastico hissed as the shadows undulated and moved. Her claws and teeth bared she moved herself, poised between the moving darkness and Willow, eyes narrowed, her hackles raised. The other two women who had accomapnied her through the portal also crouched, ready for battle, both had drawn improbably large swords from deceptivly small sheaths on their backs. Muttering under their breaths. A prayer for their fallen comrade Willow pondered for all of a second, before the Darkness erupted spewing hideous creatures onto the asphalt of the alley. Anya began screaming again, noone tried to stop her this time, Willow in fact, wanted to join her.
The two remaining women let loose with their swords. Totally ineffectually against these creatures that were worse than anything even Willow could imagine, even after living on a hellmout for most of her life. One of the creatures jumped at her, only to find itself filleted by a pissed of house cat. Albeit of the giant variety. It's insides, Willow noted, looked better than it's interior. But, despite that loss of one of the creatures, it's bretheren came, in their hundreds.
As one, Faith and Tara flew at the oncoming horde. Faith using every move in the Slayer's arsenal, Tara likewise, but in her vampiric form, she was far more formidable. Mouths packed with razor sharp teeth snapped at Tara. "How many mouths does one thing need?" She asked as she smacked another mouth away from her. She heard something break, and the mouth, and the stalk it was attatched to, went limp.
A score of the creatures flew again at Willow, she barely had time to raise a mystical shield around herself, before the creatures started pounding on it, with fists, knees, and other things, that Willow didn't even want to think about. "A little help here?" Willow shouted, as cracks started to appear in her shield.
As suddenly as their assault had begun, it was over. The creatures had a new focus. Five of their number fell, in a matter of seconds. Willow caught a glimpse of something gleaming in the half light of the alley. Instinctively she knew what it was, and who was behind it. Senga stood triumphantly over the corpses of the creatures, the ax of the slayer held tight in both hands. The creatures drew towards her, they almost seemed manic, pushing and shoving each other out of the way to get at Senga. No, Willow realised, not Senga. They wanted the Ax.
Suddenly it all fell into place in Willow's mind. She stood up and dropped the field protecting her. Raising both hands above her head, she summoned all of the power she could muster, and fired an energy ball down the alley, in the opposite direction. The horde stopped, sniffed the air and suddenly turned. They saw the ball of magical energy flying away from them, and practically formed a stampede to follow it.
"It was the magic. All they wanted was the magic. Not us." Willow gasped, as the last of the creatures ran past her.
"Very clever child. Truly you are a magnificent specimen. I was right to come here." The original figure stepped out of the amorphous shadows and grabbed Willow. A giant clawed paw ripped one of his arms off at the elbow. The creature merely laughed. "Plenty more where that came from kitty." He had spoken the truth, more hands appeared from all around Willow, grabbing her, tearing at her, and ripping her from that place.
Then it was over.
"Willow...." Tara cried out into the night.
But Willow was gone.
"Willow..." Buffy whispered.
But
Willow
was
gone.
