Title: Terminator 1/2/3
Description: A question.

TheHighlander - January 23, 2006 01:12 PM (GMT)
If you discount the actual endings of all the films, say the individual Terminators (Arnie, Patrick & Loken) had completed their missions (obviously the other two wouldnt have had to if Arnie had done the business the first time round) what would they then do? Did they have a way of getting back to the future (Great Scot! ;) ) or would they have to destroy themselves in some manner?
Although, T2 answers this is some way, in relation to that film in particular.
I just thought of this. Discuss...

Would they need to go back....all the Terminator would have to do is 'allow' itself to come into the possesion of Cyberdyne systems.......and the 'discovery' would ensure the robots come into existence....... :ponder:

In T2 Arnie said he couldn't self terminate but that was his model maybe this was upgraded on the other models.

It doesn't always pay to dig too deep in to time travel because you usually end up in a vicious circle.

If T1 had succeeded then John Connor's dead.
If John Connor's dead then resistance to machines is negligble.
If resistance to machines is negligble then no need to send Terminator back.
If T1 isn't sent back then Cyberdyne don't get the parts.
If they don't get the parts then there's no Terminator or at least not for a long time.
If there's no Terminator then how do they get the parts?

And that's not getting into Reese being the father of John.

I would have imagined that a scenario like in Terminator 3 would have occurred where there would be secondary targets and missions to ensure the victory of Skynet. I don't imagine they conceived the idea that they would need a way of getting back to the future. Their mission or missions would be their sole existence until they stopped running.

Somehow I seriously doubt they would have to destroy themselves in some manner. They would probably continue to exist until their power supply ran out, which of course would have been post apocalypse in 1997 (is that date correct?) , Judgement Day. I guess had they survived Judgement Day which would seem extremely probable the evolution of the Terminator would have been greatly accelerated. Particularly with the prototype models as played by Patrick and Loken still in existence probably causing the end of the resistance before it had a chance to begin.

To quote Reese....

"Listen. And understand. That terminator is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead"

So there you have it. It will "stop".

Of course, if any of the terminators had succeeded, they would have ceased to exist, which would have created a temporal paradox, and the universe would probably have exploded. Either that or the teminator would run for governor. Not sure which one is preferable.
