Title: What Shall I Call My Computer?

Matthew Matic - January 13, 2006 10:09 AM (GMT)
I'm trying to think of a good name for my second computer. My first is called BIGRAT, which is a reference to Joe 90 and I want a name for my second computer that's also a reference to sci-fi. Unfortunately my friends have already used LCARS and Gort and I don't want to copy them. For some reason I also don't want to use a Soong type android. Any ideas?

btw, the other day I was having a discussion with some friends as to the definition of geek. I think this question is probably it!

My computers are U2 album titles. The final number in their IP address corresponds to the album order so my main server is Boy etc, etc.

*Takes board geek throne* :)

I expected you to post 'a pull yourself together' type post, but now I'm completely shocked and a little amused.

A few months ago when I still had my old Packard Bell 266MHz machine, it was a mature classy number so Scully was the obvious choice – at the time I also had a Celeron machine on the go which was a newer sleeker model, thus named Illyria.

I soon got rid of the old 266, but kept a few items from it (PSU etc) and mixed them in with the Celeron project, then put it all in a hawt case – so it's mature and still looks hawt, so we're back with the name Scully :D

Because of w**k I reserve my profanities for Microsoft - even if its a hardware problem Bill still gets the blame :)

Every time something I write works I see it as a small victory over his efforts to thwart me :)

My PC at home is called "You f***ing piece of $%!^"

My PC at w**k is called. "AAAARRGGHHHH Damn you, you horrible worthless piece of ji$m"

It would be really. If the two hard disc drives are on the same IDE cable, one is 'Master' and the other 'Slave'. You already knew that though...

My new laptop works perfectly (apart from one Tomb Raider Level editor program, but that's a software fault) :)

No - that's the computers in the Multimedia Labs at my University. We had a laboratory on Java today and the program that we use to write the code crashed when creating an instance of the Java program

Well, it did whenever you opened the Java file using the server's name instead of the drive letter, so I spent half an hour showing most everyone how to reference using the drive letter instead
