Just watched the first ep of this on BBC2.
Not great but hopefully it will improve as it gets going.

Yea, t'was okay... Nothing major.
Lots of David Brent-ness in the Captain though... maybe a little too much in fact.
Had some very good moments nonetheless... the talking gun in particular.

Yeah I noticed a similarity to David Brent in the Captain.

I didn't think it was funny at all. I stuck with it however, in the vain hope that it gets better.

Sums up my feelings as well. The adverts looked soooo funny :tear:

First eps of anything are nearly always pretty bad and it did have it's moments (like the gun refusing to fire until you agreed to all the terms and conditions).

Does anyone know if its going to be repeated? I rushed to set the recorder before going to w**k and managed to record half an hour of the News on ITV!

I think it is being repeated on Saturday night @ 10pm
But don't quote me on that ;)
prophecy girl - January 13, 2006 11:36 AM (GMT)

I saw this (and missed 'Lost'). It was quite awful! There were a small number of moments where I laughed, but that was it. I found the characters very plain and boring and the story didn't seem to have much to it.
Most of the jokes just weren't funny, either. I'll tune in to the next one in the hope that i'll improve. However, if the clip on the website is anything to go by, it won't :(

I thought this had potential. I liked the style, but found the story dull.
Dan Dispossessed - January 19, 2006 06:56 PM (GMT)
Last night's was better than last week's. York, the mad man was able to put his more comedy persona to good use by formulating a clever way of escape and generated some nearly good comedy moments. The two main characters are still plain dull though and Jeffers' race scene wasn't funny really.

I didn't think it would, but it's starting to grow on me.

I'm the opposite, I thought I would like it, especially with Frost and Eldon starring, but I'm loosing patience with it. Its just not funny, and not even as amusing as the worst episodes of Red Dwarf (ie most of Series 7 & 8). :(

What it lacks are decent characters and a better situation. For example, Henderson and Teal are much the same character, so they don't play off each other well. The whole episode has a sort of "Meh, I'm not worried" air to it, which doesn't really make good comedy to be honest.

Its a shame that The Office was so big, now every boss is going to be compared to Brent. yes they are both inept, but for completely different reasons. Nick Frost has created a character in his own right.
now that the rant is out of the way i will agree that its not the best of shows. its quite lazy in its approach. where they could have gone for one well worked laugh they went for 2 mildly amusing ones. slightly disappointing, but i'm going to stick with it anyway for lines like "tea and wagonwheels for six please"
