Title: kingdom hospital

Anyone seen it yet? I’ve just downloaded the pilot and it’s absolutely fantastic! How can it not be when it comes from Stephen King. The style, visual effects, acting and just about everything else! All great! :D

Not seen it yet but can't wait til Sunday! Being a big King fan I'm really looking forward to this series.

 You wont be disappointed

Is it on terrestrial or Sky in the UK? I've noticed the beeb have added a section for it.

Jae - May 1, 2004 11:19 AM (GMT)
It's on BBC Three at 10pm Sunday nights. Finally, buying Freeview pays off!

I've seen it it. To be honest IMO King's stories fall into one of two camps; Brilliant (IT, The Stand, Green Mile, Shawshank, Stand By Me, etc....) and the disappointing (Tommyknockers, Rose Red, Hearts in Atlantis, Needful Things, etc....).

Frankly I'm of the belief that Kingdom Hospital falls into the latter category. I tried to like it, I really did, but it just does absolutely nothing for me.

I wasn't a great fan of the original Kingdom series though either, so maybe it's not Mr King's fault entirely ;)

With the pilot being so long it seemed like a telly movie, I’m up to episode 3 now and the story and characters seem to be coming into there own. It’s all picking up pace now.

I think I've got the first 7 or so hanging around somewhere, I just haven't really felt compelled to watch them after the first 2 or 3. Time permitting I'll give them another go over the summer whilst there's nothing else on. It wouldn't be the first time I misjudged a show based on the first few episodes, B5 and Farscape come to mind ;)

I saw it last night and all I can say is it's very odd. I will try and watch the rest of the series though, see if it improves.

melian - May 4, 2004 08:55 AM (GMT)
I agree with Jae, it was a little weird even for me. But I guess I'll keep watching as I am a huge King fan, even his bad stuff!!

Crichton Kicks - May 6, 2004 12:24 PM (GMT)
Apparently it's been cancelled.

Nothing on The Futon Critic site, where it's still listed as a "current ongoing" series, however there are numerous articles on the net suggesting ABC has killed it.

Wasn't it only surposed to be 15 (or less) episodes long anyway?

Crichton Kicks - May 7, 2004 01:15 PM (GMT)
originally yes, but they hoped the success would push it forward for a second season. Just what King's involvement with the show would have been at that point is anyone's guess, but it doesn't look like we'll have to worry about finding out anyway.

Sorry Eric, I know you've been watching this one :(

I watched the first episode on BBC2 and then the second on BBC3 last night and I have to say it really didn't do anything for me. Apart from the anteater. The anteater was cool.

Crichton Kicks - May 10, 2004 04:55 PM (GMT)
One of the girls at work mentioned that she'd seen it last night whilst under the influence. She put that down to it's weirdness. I'm afraid I had to relieve her of that misapprehension ;)

Jae - May 10, 2004 09:12 PM (GMT)
I saw the second ep last night and it looks like something I could get into.

melian - May 12, 2004 08:57 AM (GMT)
I'm still trying to watch the first episode!! I hate it when life gets in the way of catching up with my viewing!!!

melian - May 13, 2004 01:25 PM (GMT)
Okay. I watched both episodes last night. What the hell is it all about. Are they going to get to the story at some point soon?

Jae - May 14, 2004 06:31 PM (GMT)
Here's the official site for Kingdom Hosptial: www.kingdomhospitalofmaine.com

Stupid housemates in stupid shared house!!! I had to miss the third episode of Kingdom Hospital last night just because one my housemates was watching Hudson Hawk through ntl and didn't want to miss any of it while I tried to tune the tv to channel five. He was so mean!!!

willowroolz - May 17, 2004 10:40 AM (GMT)
At least it's repeated on BBC2 next week ;)

melian - May 17, 2004 10:54 AM (GMT)
I know, but it means I actually have to wait, and you know how good I am at that!

willowroolz - May 17, 2004 11:02 AM (GMT)
Very?

melian - May 17, 2004 12:00 PM (GMT)
Erm...Yes.

Crichton Kicks - May 17, 2004 05:30 PM (GMT)
The Futon Critic website's carrying a story that Kingdom Hospital has been yanked from the schedule for a month until June 24th. ABC will then broadcast the final 3 singular episodes and the 2 hour finale.

melian - June 2, 2004 08:59 AM (GMT)
Is anybody still watching this?

I must admit to be quite enjoying this now, you just have to get used to the slow pace of it all. I still don't have the foggiest about what is actually happening though ;)

LoobiLou - June 2, 2004 11:08 AM (GMT)
This has got to be the weirdest thing i have ever seen...

And i have no idea what is happening either

melian - June 2, 2004 01:23 PM (GMT)
Glad it is not just me then

Jae - June 2, 2004 07:43 PM (GMT)
I'm slowly becoming addicted, even though I haven't got a clue what's going on most of the time! BTW, what up with the anteater, Artibus?

Who knows. Maybe only Stephen King, and I'm not even sure about him!!

Jae - August 3, 2004 11:33 AM (GMT)
Did anyone else watch this all the way through? The final ep summed up alot. I liked the way Stephen King managed to throw in things to remind you that he wrote it, like everytime a character was reading a book it was a S K book, various leaflets showed titles of other S K books and films, and all the drinks machines were Nozz-A-La(sp).

melian - August 4, 2004 08:55 AM (GMT)
Yeah Jae, I watched it. Good wasn't it!!!

I'm real tempted to buy the DVD!

Jae - August 4, 2004 07:35 PM (GMT)
I'm not too sure about getting the DVD, maybe I'll wait til it's cheaper.

melian - August 5, 2004 04:24 PM (GMT)
Does anyone know where I could get hold of the title song?

Jae - August 5, 2004 07:03 PM (GMT)
I did know what it was called but I've forgotten now. I think it's by Ivy. If you find it let me know, I want it too ;)
