Title: Xbox Live

Dan Brown - December 14, 2005 08:52 PM (GMT)
Ok I haven't got a 360....I know I should but £400 is a bit much at the moment!

But I was wondering as I don't have Xbox live on the normal xbox if I can get it now without a credit card as they have released these gamer cards for Xbox Live if you pay I think its about £40 you get it for a whole year....

Is this only for 360?

I just don't have a creadit card as I don't want to enter the whole debt society!

It's like I'm being punished for not wanting to get into debt?!

Why should you? Why pay X amount for hardware that's not worth X amount ? If it's because you're really into gaming then I can understand perfectly, but I hope it's not due to peer pressure to be "one of the first"? :ermm:

edit: that sounded sort of caring and female like, read the post back to your self in Lance Henriksens voice :ermm:

No its cause I'm really into gaming.....I would never buy anything to keep in with the 'crowd' but I have decided I can live with my XBOX until the 360 comes down to about £150.

With games like Half-Life 2, Black and Far Cry that are still to come or I haven't played then I can last until then specially as I have less time to play with all my Uni w**k.

But I still would like to get onto Xbox live, without resorting to having a debt-card.

I also have never had a console at launch....and I just wanted to see what it's like....I know it sounds wierd...

Daniel, I've had a quick look into this. I don't have broadband so don't use Xbox Live, but everything I've read regarding the top up cards applies to the 360 only.

Basically you need a Gold subscription to play games on Live, then you can buy top up cards for "Microsoft Points" which act as currency on the Live marketplace and allow you to download various things, like arcade games, extra levels, skins, demos etc.

I'm assuming this is the reason for it being 360-only - you wouldn't be able to use any of that content on the original Xbox.

Of course, I could be talking complete bollocks, never having used the service myself, so you may want to ask in store.

There's more info here.

Thanks alot, this is very helpful.

Well at least when I get around to buying a 360 I'll be able to get onto Live!

Cheers
