Now, I'm going to try and comment on this episode without saying anything bad about Vic Fontaine :)

Given what's coming in the final episodes, it makes sense to have one last fun episode where everyone gets to enjoy themselves. The trouble here is the nature of the romp.

DS9 is supposed to be protecting Bajor, yet the entire senior staff are allowed to go on a fun adventure in the holosuite just to save a holodeckcharacter from being wiped? We are in the middle of a war here, people! While it's true they did the same thing in 'Take Me Out to the Holosuite', at least that felt like it was for a more worthy reason (although they should have had some people away in Ops).

The other bit that jarred was Sisko's reluctance to join in. Had he said he wasn't joining in because he disagreed with his senior staff playing along rather than w**king (as he made quite clear while they were planning the heist), or he wasn't playing along as he had no attachment to Vic as he didn't care for the locale (which was also made clear as it was said he'd never been to Vic's before) then it would have worked much better than the soapbox rant about how blacks weren't treated equally in those days so it was an insult to the era that Vic's let them in as any bar would. His point was fair, but it just felt out of place.

Still, disregarding these problems it is a fun episode which does the job of letting everyone have some fun before all hell breaks loose very soon....

Good things about this episode:-

1) Fun to watch.
2) Ezri in short skirt
3) Nice script (sort of).

Bad things:-

See Phillips post :ph43r:

Depends on what you're looking for when you watch this one really. If you approach as a bit of fun it's a good little ep. Doesn't add anything to the ongoing story but as a bit of light hearted relief it's enjoyable.

If you're looking for it to add something to the season or make sense then it's a pretty poor episode with some daft things like the aforementioned 'lets all ignore the war and immerse ourselves in the holosuite'.

Ah, I see what they're doing now. They're making all these episodes deliberately shite so that the final few shows look better in comparison  :ph43r:

They'd better be the best thing I've ever seen or a Hippy-head will roll :01:

The episode has its redeeming qualities, one of which I'm sure you'll have picked up on Steve; Vic gets the crap kicked out of him, and not before time!

I was extremely annoyed that we didn't get to actually see the event, though <_<

My vote would be for this episode to be re-released in an interactive stylee, where the viewer can use their remote control to beat the crap out of the fecker

And don't talk to me about Sisko in this episode

Sisko's a bit of an arse here isn't he?

What they should do, is adapt this episode for a release on the Wii. You'd then have the pleasure of hours and hours of bashing Vic from pillar to post.

I'd buy it

I'd pay extra if they made it so his wig would fly off at any given opportunity, too

It's weird. When he first started going off at Mrs Palmer about it being ridiculous everyone being so upset about a hologram I was thinking "Blimey, he's just said exactly what I thought". And then he went off into a rant about civil rights in the 60s and I thought "hang on, you're ranting about your senior staff being so involved and now your're bringing that up about a holosuite program??"

And then he topped all that by miming extremely badly to something he'd tried to sing <_<

Strange thing is, I kind of liked the episode, I liked the style of it, but it seemed very out of place in the middle of a war :ponder:

^^ Pretty similar to 'Take Me Out to the Holosuite' episode from earlier in the season. Everything's kicking off, but fcuk it, let's take time out to play a game in the holodeck just to satisfy our childish rivalry!
