Sex and the City creator Candace Bushnell has agreed a deal to turn her latest book into a TV series.
NBC has bought the rights to adapt Bushnell's novel Lipstick Jungle, the story of three New York career women, says the Hollywood Reporter.

Bushnell originally wrote Sex and the City, which was adapted for TV by HBO, as a newspaper column.

She said that the forthcoming series of half-hour episodes would feature "the new kind of successful career women".

"Sex and the City was about looking for Mr Big and trying to find him," Bushnell said.

Previous success

"This is about women trying to become their own Mr Big for themselves."

Producer Robin Schiff, who will co-write the series with Bushnell, said it was rare to see a TV series about "powerful women".

The book chronicles the lives of a film producer, a fashion designer and a magazine executive, who all feature in the top 20 of a fictional newspaper list of New York's most powerful women.

Sex and the City, about the love lives of four women in New York, starred Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall and won six Emmy awards and eight Golden Globes.

The finale attracted more than 10 million viewers in the US last February.
