Scorpius had much to consider, even if Rygel kept to his word and gave him John’s location he doubted that it would get him any further. He needed something to persuade Crichton to deal with him, threats wouldn’t w.ork as he had found out after the destruction of his last command carrier. He wondered where John had found to hide, there had not been a trace of him for more than a cycle.

Perhaps Rygel might lead him to John without knowing it. He would set up two intelligence teams, one to infiltrate the Charrids and one to discover what secrets lay on Hyneria. He had sensed that Rygel was not lying to him when he made the deal, the little slugs heat signature had remained constant. Had Rygel’s return to power weakened his loyalty to Crichton.

The wormhole weapon was of course no longer an option, he had never imagined it would mean the destruction of everything, that had been a disappointment, however wormhole technology would prove invaluable to the Peacekeepers, to be able to travel virtually instantaneously to any planet and leave as quickly …

He felt his mouth becoming dry, his cooling rod needed changing soon, he enjoyed the pain it began to inflict on his body, it made him sharper, stronger.

Ugulis missed Bishan, he had elevated him to High Councillor during his reign and he had grown used to the privileges that went along with the post. The new Dominar had slowly been replacing his advisors and he knew his position was tenuous, worst of all he had been expected to w.ork. For the last few solar days he’d been rushing from one meeting to the next, report after report he wasn’t sure how much longer he could take it. His formerly admirably rotund physique was sagging through the lack of meals.

Sadly the majority of the palace was pleased with the return of Rygel, ballads were being sung to celebrate his bravery and loyalty to Hyneria. He had tried to ingratiate himself with Rygel but he was unaffected by flattery, clearly not a true royal. Until the demise of the Dominar, Ugulis would have to find another way to get back the comfortable life of pleasure he missed so dearly, not much to ask he thought.

Grobix was trying to squeeze his little body behind the dresser, there had been a loud crash and fire was racing around their garden making everything black and causing a smell that made his three stomachs turn. He should have gone to town with his family but he wanted to play in the mud pool with his friends, now he was alone only he wasn’t, he had heard strange voices after the crash and they were coming towards his home.

He tried to blow out all the air in his body to make it fit in the small crevice, his new tunic had been torn in the process, he would be in so much trouble, tears formed in the corners of his big shiny eyes but a thud downstairs told him to be quiet. He saw the shadow of a giant across the door frame and desperately crammed the last of his frame into the gap willing his pointy ears down so he wouldn’t be noticed. He bit down on his ruined tunic so that his whimpers wouldn’t be heard.
