Set just before the Christmas Invasion.
Who is Who I am...Part One
The Tardis engines throbbed in the background as Rose flicked through a new edition of OK magazine. Well, it was new to her, as she hadn't set foot on Earth in dimensional terms for well over six hundred and forty three thousand seven hundred and fifty years, three hundred and twelve days, two hours and twenty one minutes. The Doctor had let her off for a moment to collect a few things from home.
He never left the Tardis.
The usual twaddle of she divorces him, and who is she dating now the he is dating someone completely different filled the pages, and Rose soon became bored with the whole thing and tossed it aside. She glanced over to the Doctor, who, for some reason hadn't looked up from the Tardis control panel for about an hour.
A confused sort of concentraion creased up the regenerated features of the Doctor as he hit one switch, pulled another lever, hit some console or other with a rubber mallet, said something unintelligible in some Gallifreyian tongue and then resigned himself to looking even more confused.
It had been about two hours normal time..if there was such a thing in time travel, since the Doctor swapped faces, as Rose had put it to herself, and his behaviour had become even more bizarre. She didn't hate this new form of his, just...maybe she missed the ears, or the way the Doctor she knew shrugged off problems and focused on something else.
And of the something else...Jack...
Rose rubbed her eyes, and tried to forget about leaving him behind. Okay, she thought, he leant either way, but he had a cute bum.
"Gotcha!"
Rose brought herself back from the daydream of Jack's behind and saw the Doctor pointing to the small screen on the laptop device sat on the console. She wasn't sure if he wanted her to look or not.
"Found Atlantis?" She asked.
" No...." He clicked his fingers in a eureka kind of way. "The wardrobe!"
Then, the strangest silence filled the Tardis. No engines, no movement at all. The Doctor ran around the console twice in a state of puzzlement then paused mid stride.
"Ok..."
Rose approached the console and pretended like she understood everything infront of her. "Flat battery?"
"No...interception" He replied, like it was an everyday occurance. Infact, a long time ago it would have been, but the source of the interception through the vortex was long gone. Destroyed in a war between the Daleks and the Timelords. "Strange."
""Who could intercept the Tardis?" Rose asked.
"Who indeed." The Doctor looked up at Rose and smiled. "Rose..."
The sentence was never finished as the Tarids lurched violently and came to a sudden stop. Surprisingly both where still standing. The Doctor ran round to the laptop and hit a button. The screen displayed static for a moment then begin to clear. His eyes widened, then a look of shear dread came across his face.
Rose moved round to look at the screen. All she could see was a distorted image of a forest or jungle. The Doctor jiggled with a few controls and the image cleared enough for Rose to see something strangely familiar, and something very unfamiliar.
At the edge of the forest stood an old man, who looked like a school teacher from a millenia ago. Holding onto the lapels of his jacket, head held high. And just beyond him, a strange looking vehicle, but it seemed like she had.....
"Doctor..." Rose became uneasy.
"Oh dear...." The Doctor backed away from the console, looking almost terrified. "I'm about to leave Gallifrey!"
OK. Now I'm hooked.
