Stardate: 51721.3 Sisko and Garak lure the Romulans into the Dominion war in order to get them to join the Federation/Klingon Alliance. Without them, the Federation and Klingon Empire would eventually lose the war and fall under Dominion rule.

Fan-bloody-tastic.
If you ever have to choose an episode to prove to someone why DS9 is the best of the Treks, go for this one. Gone are the namby-pamby days of Picard pussyfooting it around and keeping the Starfleet 'moral high ground' - this is Sisko, doing whatever he has to in order to get the Romulans in the battle. And the best thing? 'He would do it again'.
Trek doesn't get much better than this....

Brilliant episode :yahoo:
Great story and Garak as usual is superb. The fact that he plays Sisko so well helps make the episode, and first time round I remember thinking 'Oh, crap' when the Romulan holds up the datarod and declares it a fake.
Felt a wee bit sorry for Garak in the end with Sisko punching him to soothe his own conscience.

Ah, but it wasn't a fake. :) It was a feeeeeeeeyk!
Same as everyone else, brilliant stuff. :) As Phillip said, it goes to show how well DS9 can fare compared to the others by playing into "Trek's darker side" so well - and not just in the face of TNG. Thought springs to mind that if it were Kirk in that chair, he'd wind up duking it out with Garak in a hefty shirt-ripping fight, then at the end the pondering over whther or not he'd do it all over again gets turned into he and McCoy using it as a way to dig at Spock's Vulcan-ness. :D

I liked this one a lot. Possibly because it was the first Trek episode I'd watched on my new telly and it looked fabulous :ph43r:
I thought the mechanic of having Sisko dictate his log entry to the camera worked very well, and it was a shame they had to spoil it slightly by changing camera angles for some reason, which kind of pulled me out of the illusion.
Very good :)
