DS9's Bashir Is Hannibal
Alexander Siddig is on a roll.
by Paul Davidson

October 14, 2005 - Alexander Siddig El Fadil did a fine job playing Dr. Bashir on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and it's a pleasure to see the British-Sudanese actor getting into movies in a big way. Siddig appeared in Ridley Scott's recent Crusade epic Kingdom of Heaven, and he plays an Arab prince in the intriguing-looking thriller Syriana – there's a terrific, high-definition trailer of it up at Apple's trailer site.

Although it's not quite as flashy as a Hollywood blockbuster, Siddig has a lead role in another film currently in production. Sid City reports the actor to be starring in a BBC documentary-drama film about Hannibal, the brilliant Carthaginian general who nearly defeated Rome in the Punic Wars. There's already a gallery up full of set images from Hannibal, which will be broadcast in Britain next year.

Also watch for Alexander Siddig in The Last Legion, another historical war film set in ancient Rome. And who knows, if Star Trek gets back on its feet, he might even don a Starfleet uniform once again. That'll only be if they do "something irresistible" with the franchise, however.
