So, aside from the point of giving him something to do this season, why on earth did they choose O'Brien to go on this mission? On one side he's not an actual member of Starfleet and on the other he's an engineer - not a spy!

Still, the episode was good enough, if a little predictable. Just a shame they had to go back to the cliched 'DS9 falls apart without O'Brien there' story - what would they do when the series ended?

Okay so we have the usual O'Brien ends up doing something dangerous for no apparent reason plot, but for all that they're usually pretty good and this one isn't an exception.

I think this was the idea, he's not a traditional clean cut star trek type and he's clearly not a spy and so should attract less opposition :)

I thought this one was very good. I've always liked Nick Tate, back to his Space 1999 days, and I thought he did a brilliant job of making Bilby sympathetic, given that he only had 40 minutes to work with and a somewhat cliched script. I felt very sad for him at the end, when he said goodbye to his cat and asked O'Brien to take care of it.

A fine job by Colm Meaney as well. I usually find his stand alone episodes refreshing amongst all the other ongoing storylines, and this was no different.
