It was growing late and I was now in the Blue aura club, making my way up the stairs I drew the cloth across my face, trying not to draw attention to myself. The burly guards let me through when I mentioned Pietros they were carrying more arms than a Peacekeeper. No-one else could bring weapons in there was a holoscanner in the doorway to make sure of that.
Feschlik was standing alone watching the action in the club beneath him, I waited until he turned and then threw the hood back for affect revealing my shining silver skin and striking white hair.
There was a cruel gleam in his eyes as he drew me in, I would have to play this one carefully. He caressed my hair and offered me delicacies he was not unhandsome but his touch made me crawl. After a short conversation he agreed to transport the shipment to the carrier for the agreed price, adrenalin raced through me as I thought I would soon be out of there.
He led me to the door as if to say goodbye but instead raised his hand.
“Of course all this is conditional on you joining me in a private game of Tardek tomorrow night, you will attend I’m sure.”
I read his eyes which told me he was not going to take no for an answer and if I attempted to make an excuse it might raise doubts. I was truly frelled, games of chance I could play with ease but this was a strategy game and I had nothing for a stake. He was testing me.
“For amusement or currency” I asked whilst smiling to hide my concern.
“Aren’t they both the same thing” he laughed.
I left defeated, I could make arrangements for Nebari Prime and see Rygel’s medic tomorrow and be off this station before Feschlik would discover me gone but I couldn’t let Pietros and his people down. What the yotz was I going to do.
Chapter 8
What I did was the worst thing I could have but considering my options at the time it was the most inviting, I’d gotten wasted. After leaving the club I passed a bar on the way back to my apartment and one drink of rasnol lead to another. I woke with a pounding head feeling like dren, maybe when I saw Rygel’s hynerian doctor he’d have something that could pep me up a little.
I hoped I hadn’t missed his transport as I’d overslept. I made my way through the already bustling courtyard heading straight for the docking area. I wasn’t too late, there was a small craft coming from Hyneria that was coming in microts. Waiting near the hanger entrance I realised just how much I was counting on this, what if whatever he gave me wore off or wasn’t enough to fool the Nebari authorities.
I saw some little figures approaching silhouetted against brightly lit doors. One of them seemed to be floating and I followed with my gaze at it came into view.
I leapt over to him and gave him a huge hug, wrapping my arms around his wrinkled little neck.
“You shouldn’t be here, you are supposed to be on your planet doing Dominar things, nothing is wrong is it, it’s so good to see you.” I had a thousand questions, what was Rygel doing here.
“Shhhhh quiet” he flapped “I’m travelling incognito, I’m not supposed to be here” he chuckled to himself. “It was easier to get out than I thought, although I did bring along a body guard. I couldn’t pass on the opportunity to have a little fun; the duties of Dominar are endlessly tiresome.”
“You have brought the doctor” I studied the two Hynerians accompanying him.
“Yes, yes of course stop plaking” he cut me short “Orlan here is my own personal physician.” He gestured to the plump Hynerian on his left.
“Tardek” I gave Rygel another enormous hug, “You are the best Tardek player I’ve ever seen, Rygel you up to showing a kasnic trog how the game should be played, do you have any credits?”
“Well I did bring a little but Tardek, I thought I was here to bring the doctor, what else have you got yourself into Chiana” although he spoke gruffly his little eyes were dancing at the mention of Tardek.
I looked at him more closely, he did look drained. Despite what he said I knew that he was passionate about restoring Hyneria to its former glory. He had always cared for his subjects but this time round his reign would be different as he had lived the life on the other side for cycles, having been imprisoned by the peacekeepers for longer than my life time. I hoped that this excursion would serve to entertain him a little and not get him killed.
