Description: NO SPOILERS

Craig G - October 10, 2005 01:40 PM (GMT)
was just wondering, how many times is everyone planning to see the film and how many people they are bringing with them????

I have seen it once with my flatmate (also a firefly fan) on friday, and i am going to go next staurday with my best friend (again a firefly fan, I converted both of them, go me  )

And i am trying to convince the other half to go with me also during the week or on saturday with me and my friend.

I have also been bugging my little brother to go see it (I promised him pretty ladies through the film lol) with his friends and girlfriend (i would promise her pretty men through the film, but havent had a chance to talk to her about it :) )

So if my plans go well, i will have been responsible for 10 tickets being sold, thats not too shabby, some may even say that it was shiny !

though, i am no where near as good as the folks over at the cantstopthesignal.co.uk Some of them have went to see it 7 times since friday, now that is impressive!!!!!

laughitupfuzzball - October 10, 2005 01:48 PM (GMT)
Well I managed to convert one of my friends to Firefly who in turn converted her boyf. We are all planning on seeing it again so that will be 6 tickets.

I haven't been able to convince my brother yet but he will probably go and see it and not tell me.

I'm trying to get another friend to go as well :) and if I have to see it yet again so be it

Psycho Jack - October 10, 2005 01:53 PM (GMT)
I've got three on my list so far. They're all newbies but on having seen the trailer they are all quite up for it.

My better half will be dragged along also, so I guess that makes four. :)

willowroolz - October 10, 2005 01:58 PM (GMT)
I'm just arranging a trip for 4, maybe 5, people in the office, so in I'll have been with 8 other people after that, and it might not end there

Yay-For-Me - October 10, 2005 02:08 PM (GMT)
Hopefully going again one evening this week, taking with me two friends who are both Firefly fans  Went on thursday with Ant and his friend, who's never seen Firefly and currently trying to talk another 2 friends into coming with me on another day

willowroolz - October 10, 2005 02:10 PM (GMT)
Can I count Paul twice? In that case it's 9

Yay-For-Me - October 10, 2005 02:11 PM (GMT)
If I take Ant again, I'll count him twice

Psycho Jack - October 10, 2005 02:14 PM (GMT)
<_<

Now, now... that's just cheating!

Craig G - October 10, 2005 02:14 PM (GMT)
yup, count the number of tickets that you are responsible for selling, it doesnt matter that it might be the same folks a few times as even if it is, That still means more money for Serenity

giving more chance of making these guys more famous and more chance of a sequel ;)

willowroolz - October 10, 2005 02:16 PM (GMT)
Got to count my three tickets as well then, 11 :lmao:

"does anyone know if the UK box office figures for this weekend have been released yet, am frantically waiting to see how much money Serenity took opening weekend"

Gossi posted this over on the Browncoats board:

"The numbers aren't out yet, but Variety pins it at just over $1.6m for the weekend"

Bits ’n’ Pieces: Movie fan purchased 320 tickets to give out

Who was he?

A man said he bought 320 tickets to "Serenity" and on Sept. 30 stood in front of Regal Cinema Cascade 16 theater and gave them away.

It could have been a crazy promotion by Universal Pictures. Or maybe he was just a crazed fan willing to drain his savings account for the love of a movie.

We may never know the man’s identity. But we do have one version of why he wanted to fill the theaters opening day.

David Child of Vancouver and his 13-year-old daughter, Alix, talked to the man after a matinee showing of the movie that’s based on the defunct science fiction TV series "Firefly."

"He told me he bought 320 tickets and wanted to know if we wanted to see the next show," David Child said.

When Child turned down the offer, the man asked if he wanted to see a later showing.

The man told Child he didn’t get a bulk rate. Child figures he spent about $2,500.

"He’s a big fan of ’Firefly’ and wants the (box office) numbers high enough that the studio will make more of the movies," Child said the man told him.

Child and his daughter understand the passion.

Alix, who was introduced to the TV series by her dad, spent $50 to buy the DVD set of the series that lasted one season on Fox.

"I’d compare it to ’Star Trek’ or ’Star Wars’ fans," David Child said.

Stones tickets up for grabs

Jim Ward knows some would call him crazy for not wanting to see the Rolling Stones live at Portland’s Rose Garden arena on Nov. 1.

Rather than use two tickets he bought for $300, he wants to use the tickets to draw folks to his business.

Ward, who owns Cheap Thrills at 10214 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd. in Vancouver, said he will hold a drawing to give the tickets away.

Cheap Thrills sells new and used CDs and DVDs. He also converts vinyl records and cassettes to CDs.

But he insists his motives are altruistic.

"I really do want someone who wants to see the concert to use the tickets," he said.

"I have seen every band out there over the years, except the Stones and the Beatles. I love the Stones but I don’t want to see them live."

But when it comes to ex-Beatles, he plays a different tune. He has two tickets for Paul McCartney a few days later and will be at that concert.

Anyone interested in entering the drawing can stop by his store beginning Wednesday. He said the drawing will likely take place Oct. 26.

I hope he kept one for himself.......

Unless of course it was mr Whedon....in which case he's probably seen it....

Ok....question for all you folks who have seen the film........

Due to both of us being stupidly busy the last few months, the missus and I have not had the chance to sit down and watch Firefly (I know..... ) So....I know a fair bit about it but the missus hasnt even seen the trailer....I've convinced her she needs to go and see it on the big screen.....but....

Do you really need to have seen Firefly BEFORE seeing Serenity, and would seeing the film first ruin things for first time viewing of the series?????

Obviously......no spoilers please..... :)

Nick - October 11, 2005 11:24 AM (GMT)
Stuart, no. Things that aren't clear in the film are not clear from the series, I think.

:ponder: no and no

willowroolz - October 11, 2005 11:27 AM (GMT)
I saw it with Dave (Hippy) on Friday. He'd never seen the series and he loved the movie, so I reckon you'll be fine, Stuart :)

goth willow fan - October 11, 2005 11:47 AM (GMT)
It helps obviously but isn't absolutely necessary (Hippy hadn't seen the series before and he liked it)

Note to self - see what other people have written before replying

The last watcher - October 11, 2005 11:49 AM (GMT)
thanks guys....and gals......

I was pretty sure the film would stand alone ok, but I was a bit worried seeing the film first would spoil the continuity....

Going to try to go see it tomorrow then.......the missus is in Paris for a meeting today....I'm on lates Thursday/Friday, then she's away at the w/end and I'm on Nights..... ...one day we'll get to watch Firefly.....

buffy_fan1 - October 11, 2005 06:38 PM (GMT)
Hi Stuart no you don't need to have seen Firefly to understand Serenity because there is an introduction explaining about the war between The Alliance and the independaces at the begining of the film but fans of the series will get more out of it.

I've only seen it once I hope to see it at least one more time it's just getting a lift to the cinema that the problem, so far I haven't managed to get any of my friends to go and see it they think I'm a nerd :(

ant - October 11, 2005 08:28 PM (GMT)
I want to see everyone day but I know that will never happen but I think I might see it at the Cinema's about 4 times.

Craig G - October 12, 2005 02:14 PM (GMT)
i have now taken to trying to sublimenaly co-erce people to go see the movie lol.

Am doing night shifts in w**k at the mo, se when we are on breaks, i asked my team if they have been to the cinema lately, and when they say 'nah' I say, well i went last friday to see this film serenity, and it was amazing.

So far i think they think i am nuts, not too sure if it worked lol

oh and in the canteen i haev been finding every magazine with a review of firefly and leaving the mags open at the review pages. Apparently NOW gave the movie a 5 star review and a big double page review, well done NOW, now only if the other mags would do that ;)
