Title: Peacekeeper Wars On Five?

Dan Brown - October 5, 2005 11:24 AM (GMT)
Just out of interest (I bought the Peacekeeper Wars on DVD) has channel five actually show Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars? Surely if they haven't they should be soon....

laughitupfuzzball - October 5, 2005 11:27 AM (GMT)
No as far as I am aware it was only shown on Sky One. It surely would be nice if it was shown as I'd love to see Farscape go the same way as Firefly and get a movie out.

Mind you Channel 5 .... they would probably show it at 2am

willowroolz - October 5, 2005 12:02 PM (GMT)
Five's rights for the mini series don't come into effect until next year, iirc :)

It would be nice if Farscape hit the big screen and who knows maybe one year in the future it just might.

They have been good to Stargate Atlantas giving it an 8pm showing... Although it has strangely disappeared from this week's schedule.

Im_Here - February 10, 2006 05:25 PM (GMT)
I emailed channel five about the PKW and they say they have the rights to it but not sure when to show it.

bloody typical, a great thing like this and there not sure what time of year to show it

My colleague was telling me today that her husband came home on Saturday with some Farscape dvds, thinking it might be good to get into (they haven't seen it before) - and she's trying to stop him!! :o :(

That's what I told her, but I don't think it helped

This is the same person who borrowed my Buffy "starter" tape, held onto it for over a year and in all that time only managed to watch 20 minutes of the first episode

Reverse psychology though, if she doesn't want him to watch it he'll probably become a fervent fan

Well that information is actually incorrect....I checked Channel 5's schedule for tomorrow and there is no mention of Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars, I now have made myself look stupid because I bigged it up to people at university all week: 'You have to see this film on Sunday it's called...etc etc its on channel 5 at 7p.m. and low and behold its not.

Checked their shedules its on Wednesday:

Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars (Film)
Starting: 21:00 on Wednesday 8th March. Duration: 3 hours. Showing on five

Placing bets on whether its moved again?

laughitupfuzzball - March 5, 2006 02:13 PM (GMT)
Cripes I hope not, I've got the popcorn ready now

jamiearmour - March 6, 2006 12:09 PM (GMT)
I saw a trailer for it, seems they are showing it on Wednesday night now :yahoo: I haven't checked to see if it's part one or if they are showing the whole thing in one go though.

I was too shell shocked after seeing the crash tv event that was Starship Troopers 2 :fear:

Ok, that'll teach me to read other peoples posts won't it  three hours of fun ahoy :yahoo:

prophecy girl - March 7, 2006 10:56 AM (GMT)
i saw an advert for wednesday

goth willow fan - March 7, 2006 11:00 AM (GMT)
The Radio Times says Wednesday and for 3 hours so it's presumably the whole thing.

buffy_fan1 - March 8, 2006 04:14 PM (GMT)
I saw it was on and I'm wonder if I should watch it or not? I haven't seen any of the other seasons, as a newbie would it be worth it or will I just be totally lost? :ponder:

willowroolz - March 8, 2006 04:24 PM (GMT)
That's a really difficult question for anyone who's seen the whole series to answer, Joe :ponder:

Initial reaction: yes, definitely watch it, it's fantastic

There is a 30 second recap of the overall story about 10 minutes into PK Wars which fills in the basics but it won't clue you in on all the characters etc. It's safe to say that if you haven't seen the rest of the series it'll lack some of the emotional impact and all of the little details will mean nothing.

Nick's probably the best one to judge cos he watched it cold. Other than that I'd say suck it and see. If you enjoy it you can go back, watch the series, then watch this again and enjoy it even more because you'll see so much more in it ;)

:ponder: Ok, in one way you will be totally lost but in another it has a very defined story which should make it enjoyable as a one off.

It is packed with action/humour/emotion and hopefully you'll fall in love with Farscape if you watch it.

Definitely worth watching :yahoo: go on - nudges :D

buffy_fan1 - March 8, 2006 08:39 PM (GMT)
I think might wait till I've the first season as I watch Buffy back to front and although I enjoy it felt like I missed something. This time I want do it the right way around. The only problem is I can't afford the dvds right now. :(

willowroolz - March 9, 2006 08:37 AM (GMT)
Good choice, I reckon, Joe :)

You could always join Amazon's dvd rental scheme and see them that way instead. If you see Sarah's link in the Lounge they're doing a free trial at the moment, then it's £5.99 a month for 3 dvds ;)

TheHighlander - March 9, 2006 12:52 PM (GMT)
Watched this last night.
Hadn't seen Farscape since it ended in BBC2.
I wondered what was going on at first, then after Crichton's recap I realised that I actually had seen the last series episode!
Enjoyed it. Some great action scenes, the usual humour and quite touching in places.
A good finish to en entertaining series.

Was this mini-series always planned as the finale to the whole Farscape thing or was the series prematurely cancelled (thereby the events of the mini-series would have been included in the final season)?

goth willow fan - March 9, 2006 12:57 PM (GMT)
Farscape was originally renewed for two seasons at the end of S3 but they learnt very late into S4 that the plug had been pulled on S5 (too late to change much of what had already been written) so the series ended on a huge cliffhanger.

So yes presumably much that is in the mini series would have formed the basis of S5.

I swear I read in an interview with Kemper or Henson or somebody else that the mini-series was in fact what they had planned for season 5 but smushed into a mini-series.

Great send off for a great series

This show is definately high in my favourite TV shows ever probably second only to Firefly...I even rate Farscape higher than Buffy :o .

It wasn't officially given 2 seasons straight after S3, it was only officially given one. However, Sci-fi had given Henson et al a verbal promise that they would be given 2 seasons - it wasn't written down though, which allowed them to back out when circumstances changed.

By the way, anyone who watched PK Wars on Five and was a little confused should also note that Five cut big bits out of it in order to fit in their ad breaks.

I noticed that.....the DVD has two parts @ approx 1 hr and a half minutes each, but five had a 3 hour slot inc. adds....I recorded it to DVD for a friend and cut out the ads and it was only 2 hours 18 minutes somewhere they lost 40 minutes approx? this can partially explained by them cutting out the credits for part 1 and the recap at the start of part 2 but still......that leaves at least 30 minutes of cut material.

laughitupfuzzball - March 12, 2006 10:42 AM (GMT)
 huh, how could they cut so much out <_<

I must admit I only got to watch the first hour in peace and I believe there was only one ad break, so after that what the hell did they do

That is very disappointing :( hardly going to help new watchers of the show.

Fingers crossed we'll get some more in the future, everyone seems keen to do it, maybe a film, just a question of finance :(

willowroolz - March 13, 2006 08:24 AM (GMT)
Glad I didn't bother to watch it.

Well I think the cut out alot of the stuff involving Harvey...maybe they thought that newcomers wouldn't understand the concept of a Scorpius living inside Johns mind.

On the other hand I think five made a mistake in getting the rights to the show in the first place they didn't show the programme in the first place, SO they purchased the show but didn't know really what to do with it, this is further shown by the fact that it was orginally intended to be part of the Sci-Fi weekend shown on Sunday instead of the Wednesday, but they showed the dire sequel to Starship Troopers instead. They obviously didn't want to spread it across to evenings...so they decided to show it one night and cut it down (because blimey I wouldn't be able to sit down for 4 hours including breaks!)
