Title: Episode 5.01
Description: Spoilers
Psycho Jack - October 2, 2005 12:45 AM (GMT)
Christ. Well, wasn’t expecting that at all. <_<
I do feel quite cheated that there were still some scenes with MV even after his incident with the uzi. The attack was so furious and raw that you knew he was going to die, yet I seriously began to think that yet again another Alias cast member was going to avoid certain death. The “I love you” scene was just pure cheese as well.
Nevertheless, a decent enough fare well to Vartan’s four years on the show I guess and a decent opener in all. Nothing too spectacular though.
It is certainly going to be an interesting year for Alias. Vartan is gone, Garner is effectively out of action, Grunberg is bumped down a “Special Guest Star” and there are three brand new regulars.
It’s dubious to say the least.

Ditto. I was really shocked when he got shot (didn't realise MV was leaving, either the spoiler passed me by or I forgot..), but I was practically cheering that JJ had managed to kill someone off. Then he was awake in hospital <_<. There was some serious eye-rolling at that point... those hospital scenes were so unnecessary. But yay to him dying in the end. Poor Sydney for losing another fiance, but he's not going to be missed by me!
Apart from the death it was a pretty poor episode imo. I can't even pretend to be interested in this prophet 5 stuff, and :o :o at Grunberg being demoted to special guest star :tear:. It doesn't look to be a promising season, that's for sure. :(

 I know exactly what you mean! His departure had gone straight over my head too. I guess Vartan wants to do that classic thing every TV actor wants to do... pursue a movie career!

Again, I know exactly what you mean! :ermm: I do still feel quiet loyal to it and will probably carry on watching, but I can see it falling further down my download list with regards to its priority.

I'll definitely keep watching, I just don't have very high expectations. At least that way it can't disappoint me! And I'm forever hopeful that Sark will one day return, so I've gotta keep watching just in case . I don't like the idea of having so many new characters at once, it always takes me a while to adjust to new people - I still haven't warmed to Nadia!- so 3 at once is really pushing it.
Quick question... I can't really remember how things ended last season and don't particularly want to rewatch... why is Sloane in prison (again )? :)
Psycho Jack - October 2, 2005 11:13 PM (GMT)
Er… I can’t remember the specifics, but he went a bit psycho (again), didn’t he? I think he joined Yelena or something...
Re the Varatan issue. Having had a quick look on the net, apparently there has been a lot ‘rumours’ doing the rounds about on-set issues and a lot of fan accusations and counter-accusations causing a lot of controversy.
However, it seems that JJ has finally broken his silence over the matter.

Everybody is talking about what they can't say about Michael Vartan's rumored exit from Alias. My question is, what can you say?
Highlight for Answer:
A lot more than I could a week ago. Shortly after picking up his first Emmy ever for directing the killer Lost pilot, J.J. Abrams finally broke his silence about the firestorm ignited by Vaughn's alleged forthcoming death, including reports that Vartan's ex, Jennifer Garner, engineered the whole thing in a plot to remove him from the show. And here's the best part: It's a bloody AA exclusive!!!
First off, J.J. hinted that rumors of Vaughn's whacking have been greatly exaggerated: "It ain't over till the fat lady sings," he teased. "You have to see what the story is. And when I said at the beginning of the year that [Vartan] is back this season, I wasn't lying. So, in the way that Alias does things that you might not expect — in a way that you might not expect — it's typical of that. The conclusion people are coming to isn't exactly what it is."
And what of tabloid trash that Jen pressured ABC and Alias producers (Abrams included) to dump Vartan? "When you read that no one on the set is allowed to look at her in the eyes, you can't help but laugh at that," he said. "It's so preposterous that it's one of those things that doesn't even warrant a response because it's so silly. When people achieve a certain status, it is inevitable that they are the ones who become the targets. But I think there are very few voices who are saying this. The majority of people who really care about the show and about Vartan are not the people who are indiscriminately attacking Jennifer Garner. The majority of [Alias fans] really do, and rightfully so, appreciate Michael Vartan. And I hope they keep watching. And I would say one thing: Watch carefully, because there are clues as to what's going to happen in the episodes. And if [Vaughn] happens not to be in the episode that you're watching, it doesn't mean he's not part of it." In other words, it may very well be time for everyone to chill the heck out and enjoy the freakin' ride! |
Also - a great big bit of news about GG from the same source as above. Highlight at your own expense:

I know Greg Grunberg will be leaving Alias, but do you know when he stops filming?
He already stopped. In fact, Grunberg just spent the last week filming a top-secret cameo in Mission: Impossible 3 (directed by his best bud J.J. Abrams). And as I reported in last week's AA, next month he starts shooting the NBC comedy pilot Grand Union. Someone's busy. |

Well, I had absolutely no idea MV was leaving, so that came as a complete shock to me! I still thought it was preposterous that he survived the initial shooting though, and I thought they were going to chicken out of killing him off. Although I'll miss MV , I'm glad they didn't have him live after that. That would have been far too big a stretch of the imagination. Having said that, until I read here that it was always the plan for him to leave this season, I was still thinking of ways that they'd end up bringing him back - such is the nature of Alias.
Was a bit confused with the whole prophet 5 stuff and Vaughn's real identity. I might need to rewatch a few scenes as I did see it quite lateish. It could be an interesting season....or not. :)

Even death couldn't rid him of the constipated expression  :ph43r:
Must admit, I thought he was going to survive miraculously, so I'm very glad they didn't take that route :)
I quite enjoyed it, really, maybe because I had such low expectations after the last two seasons :ermm:

I was surprised to see the impact of that crash was so bad it knocked most of the curl out of Sydney`s hair. :whistling:
Fangy and grrr - March 27, 2006 10:20 PM (GMT)
Thought it was ok, I've always liked Vaughn & the Syd / Vaughn relationship so I'm so sorry he's gone but I didn't think much of his exit or the fact they seemed in such a rush to get rid of him in one episode.
Liked Syd finding out she was pregnant mid-mission - thats was very Alias :) and I know its not his style but FFS Jack give your daughter a bloody hug. :tear: :)
Oh and btw that Jennifer Garner's let her self go a bit hasn't she ? ;) :)
Outta Sight - March 28, 2006 02:56 PM (GMT)
I had managed to get myself spoiled slightly  so I knew MV left the show and I was pretty sure he died so it didn't come as any great surprise to me which I'm disappointed about cos I always liked Vaughn and his relationship with Sydney and I'd've liked to have been sadder (hey, I'm a girlie, I like a bit of a cry now and then :lmao: ) Having said that, knowing the nature of Alias, until I see the series finale and he's still dead I will always be waiting for the big "he wasn't really dead" storyline  :lmao:
It was lovely to see Greg Grunberg again  I hadn't noticed him being bumped down to special guest status but then I FF through all credits
I did like the part where Sydney tells Vaughn she's pregnant and then they parachute off the cliff :lmao:

I didn`t think it was the strongest season premiere that they`ve had... Bit disappointed that it wasn`t a two-parter, `cos some of the exposition seemed a bit rushed and I`d have liked to see more of the lovely Greg and of Kevin Wiseman.
Surprised to see that Nadia barely rated a mention . <_<
Ditto to the spoiling, Katie, I just couldn`t avoid it. :tear:

Sometimes it's just unavoidable
I knew Boone died in Lost almost from the very first episode purely because I checked the cast list on Imdb and it listed a start and finish date for his stint on the show  It didn't take a genius to figure out what that meant :tear:

I was also surprised by his death and I expected them to have faked his death. I was also disappointed and annoyed to see him alive in the hospital after such a brutal slaying. Such is the way with Alias you don't really expect a character to stay dead. So until the end of the 5th season I'll have it in the back of my mind he might not be dead(I was right about Irena, I didn't believe that for one second.) but I so dearly hope so. I bet Jack and Co arranged to fake his death after surviving the attack. The bloke who shot him was probably under cover or something ridiculous like that. <_<
Considering I had such low expectations for this 5th season I couldn't believe how bad it really was. I'm getting to the point where I don't know if I'm even going to bother sticking with it until the end of the season.
I can't honestly think of one thing I liked in the episode. Even Jennifer Garner didn't raise any lusty thoughts in my mind. I think Alias is just going through the motions like it has done for the last couple years. I don't even think the actors are even trying any more, they're just thinking about their pay cheque and getting home in time for tea.
Did anybody else noticed that Jennifer Garner is now a producer of the show! She must have a fantastic agent to take her from a virtual nobody to a producer of her show after only four years. Alias is a pointless and pathetic show these days which is so sad because it started so brightly, becoming fantastic in the second season and I had such high hopes for it. :( <_<
