Film director Robert Wise has died at the age of 80. Amongst his films were The Sound of Music and West Side Story.
As well as these piffling little films  he also directed Star Trek: The Motion Picture

Never realised the guy who did the sound of music did TMP.
It was such a boring movie, he should have shoved a few songs into it to jazz it up.
"The stars are alive, with the sound of V'ger"

And don't forget The Day The Earth Stood Still - one of the all time classics. "Gort! Klaatu barada nikto!"
Great shame - a good old age, though :)

The man who directed 2 of the best sci fi films ever. A sad loss indeed

The day the earth stood still sure, but I don't think that the andro-meda (hyphenated to stop the filter renaming it "Kev Trek") strain, while a good movie, is quite up there as the best.
Unless of course you mean that exercise-in-paint-drying, lookout here comes a big scary cloud movie that is......nah, you couldn't possibly mean that
