Title: Bones And Supernatural
Description: Premiere Episodes

The bottom line: I didn't think either was top-notch but they're good enuf for me to spend my time wondering why they just missed top-notch-hood.

BONES (with David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel)

This visually colorful and light-hearted look at murder relies heavily on the type of dialog called "banter" (a la Joss Whedon) and comprises impatiently short scenes that make for a fast-paced show. The crime-plot is rather conventional and the crime-solving is almost secondary to the characters' attitudes. I thought the acting quality second-rate. But many viewers should enjoy this one.

SUPERNATURAL (with Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles)

The closing credits of GILMORE GIRLS had a suggestion: "To best enjoy the following show, turn off your lights" (probably not an exact quote). TV GUIDE's review said that it was so scary that it recommended you keep the lights on. Well, from that standpoint, I was disappointed. I turned-off my lights and was not scared once. The backstory of the two, young ghosthunters was presented in about 2 minutes at the beginning of the show, which made it hard to become invested in. Flash forward to the present, and the ghost hunters must find their missing father. I didn't get involved in the story til the last half, and then, not very much. My favorite element was Jensen Ackles who acts "attitude" in a way that David Boreanaz can only aspire to. Since this is opposite HOUSE (and I can't view one and tape the other), this is probably the only episode I'll see of SUPERNATURAL.

Having watched Bones the other night I'd agree with that John.

The first episode wasn't flawless but it was good enough to get me watching the next one, and that looks pretty good from the trailer.

Boreanaz takes some getting used to as NOT being Angel, but after that I thought he was pretty good in the role. The female lead on the other hand comes across as being incredibly frustrating and arrogant in equal measure.

Supernatural's on the 'to watch' list. I was going to give it a miss but it comes recommended from the brother as well so I'll check it out :)

Saw the Supernatural premiere a few nights ago, I have to say it was a lot better than I expected. The beginning and end were creepy and there was plenty in the middle as well. The cast doesn't appear to be too bad either.

Vic doesn't like scary stuff so I had to pull a fast one to get her to watch it. I didn't lie, well not really. I described the show as kind of being like Ghostbusters

Ratings for SUPERNATURAL were around 5 million (it's opposite HOUSE). But it's on THE WB and the younger demographics liked it. Prospects are good.

I don't want to speculate on your rating with Vic at the moment... :tumbleweed:

Sounds promising. Guess we'll have to see what the dropoff's like for the second episode.

Yeah, Vic was less than impressed

Saw the second episodes from both these new shows earlier tonight.

Bones was alright, nothing spectacular, but still watchable. The cast appears to be fleshing out, both in terms of the leads and the supporting cast, and the writing appears to be quite solid. If I had to level one fault against the show so far it would be against Emily Deschanel, who more often than not comes across as being slightly annoying.

Supernatural's second outing takes the route of a bottle episode, but whilst the format of the episode's been done countless times before; think The X-files' Darkness Falls; it's still exciting stuff not the less. The two leads are fantastic, again the writing appears to be quite solid and there's no real visible sign that the quality might let up anytime soon. Of all the new shows that I've seen so far this season; Threshold, Surface, Bones, Invasion; I'd say Supernatural's my favourite.

Let's hope they don't have another 'Millennium' on their hands, ie. they don't really know what they've bought. Hope they have no aspirations of airing this one at 8pm

I'm really enjoying the series so far, so a big  to the full season order news.
