The opposite of the other poll. Which is your least favourite film and why?
Number Six - June 16, 2004 08:04 AM (GMT)
Sorry Ken but you must have been expecting this.
It's...... The Final Frontier

I am sorry but I dont understand why? With the exception of the scene where SCOTTY bumps his head - which is plain stupid and UHURAH dancing naked - which I cannot believe the character would do I dont think it is a bad film.
Its a bit light hearted compared to the rest and sometimes I wonder if it would have been any better with SEAN CONNERY in the SYBOK role or if they had let WILLIAM SHATNER do the film he wanted but apart from that it is not as bad as STIII!!!

Yep, sorry Kendo, TFF for me too. TSFS isn't far behind, though. ;)

For me it really wouldn't have made the slightest difference if Connery had played Sybok. My problem's with the story. "Kirk goes in search of God", gimme a break

On the plus side, the music in TFF was great. Jerry Goldsmith

Sorry, Ken
But it has to be TFF too. It's been a long time since I saw it to be honest, and I ought to rewatch. But I just didnt buy the storyline. The Enterprise in search of God... I found it pretentious, and a storyline that should have been left well alone. Having said that, it's always a pleasure to see the original crew, whatever the movie. I don't find the movie unwatchable, just the worst of the 10.
Take care,
Andrew :upside:

Sorry Ken its number 5 for me!!

Ive only see The Voyage Home. Its really that bad compared to the others on the other poll?
Crichton Kicks - June 20, 2004 10:27 AM (GMT)
The Voyage Home is regarded by many as being one of the better Trek movies. The Final Frontier is just plain awful, check that out to put The Voyage Home into context ;)
Number Six - June 20, 2004 10:39 AM (GMT)
One of my favourites is TVH. Proper Trek with a decent storyline and not another alien kickarse movie.
Some genuine comedic moments between Kirk and Spock :)

well its not a suprise that most of you are going for number V.
While I agree its not the greatest film in the world I dont think it is as bad as you suggest!!!
For some reason I dont like no III even though I think it has got some of the best lines of any of the films.
"The word sir?"
"The word is NO, I am therefore going anyway"
Classic Kirk!!!

I rewatched The Search For Spock a month or so back because I'd gotten hold of the SE. In hindsight it wasn't as bad as I remembered.
There's not much chance of my opinion of TFF changing though I'm afraid Ken. I just really really dislike the idea of Kirk going in search of God, but beyond that I really didn't like the tone of the entire movie. As with all Trek movies it had it's moments but too few and far between and some real stinkers inbetween :(

As I have said before I think the only two really bad moments of V are the scene where Scotty bumps his head (at least in the novel he runs round a corner without looking) and the bit where UHURHA sings naked. I just cannot imagine the character doing that.
Other than that I have no quarms with the movie. The tone is lighthearted after the whole sequence of SPOCK dying and been brought back and the whole scene of the three central characters camping is quite funny at the begining.
The concept of KIRK looking for God is not so distasteful for me as it was always going to be some kind of evil force that they would find. And its not Kirk that is looking for him anyway. As someone who has been both christened and baptised and then lost my faith completly I dont find Shatner's original plan for the film distasteful either - but I can see why some would.
The part of SYBOK is disapointing. I think another actor perhaps Sean Connery could have played the part better and different but the whole sequence of him showing the three central characters their past is delightful. I am totally in aggreement with Kirk's insistance that his 'pain' is part of what makes him who he is and that he dosent want to be rid of it and perhaps it is this affinity with that statement that make the film seem better to me than the rest of you see it.
No. I like the film, dont ask me why I just do. Its not the best TREK film by any means infact even I would probably say that only III is worse than it but I like it.
Kendo
oh and yes I do know that it is universally panned by ever critic you can think of!!
