Title: Killed By Death
Description: Episode 30
laughitupfuzzball - September 9, 2005 08:05 AM (GMT)
When Buffy is admitted to hospital with a raging fever she meets Ryan, a young boy who has the same flu virus and claims that the sick children in the hospital are being persecuted by a monster that may be death himself...

I was rather dissapointed in this as a follow up to Passion. Although Der Kinderstod was scary and I'm sure brought back many childhood memories of the shadow in our bedroom, it didn't do much by ways of following what happended to the scoobies post Jenny.
Only 6/10 for me and I must say I have skipped it on the rewatches. :ph43r:

buffy with the flu, not at her best (you would think that with slayer healing .. a slayer is never sick ............ ok she does feel a lot better after a full night but still ........... ok according giles it was because of buffy feeling down after jenny death) .......... cordie about buffy in need of plastic surgery
the scene of the episode: xander/angelus

Xander: Visiting hours are over.
Angelus: Well, I'm pretty much family.
Xander: Yeah. Why don't you come back during the day? Oh, gee, no, I guess you can't.
Angelus: If I decide to walk into Buffy's room, do you think for one microsecond that you could stop me?
Xander: Maybe not. Maybe that security guard couldn't either. Or those cops... or the orderlies... But I'm kinda curious to find out. You game?
Angelus: Buffy's White Knight. You still love her. It must just eat you up that I got there first.
Xander: You're gonna die. And I'm gonna be there.

love the end with the scoobies watching TV (normality) and then the drawing
maybe not the best episode, and well you would have expected something stronger after "passion" but i suppose the writer wanted to show the consequences of jenny death on the scoobies.
7.5/10

I am glad the writers did not stay with the darker tone of Passion for long. Buffy is too playful a premise to sustain it for a long time. As either Joss or Tim have commented it is difficult to stay dark for long anyway.
What blunts the impact of KBD has to be the overfamiliarity with Freddy Kruger. The story is quite well told but in a sense we have seen it all before which leaves the viewer feeling a bit short changed.
When Cordelia comments about Buffy needing to have that thing sorted on her face I presume she means the little pimple Sarah has on her chin but it would be nice to know.
It is quite playful so 6/10. sk

As you may have seen on another thread this was the first time I'd seen this episode, I struggle to fit my rewatch it at times and I promised myself I wouldn't watch it out of squence. I really liked it. I can understand why Maria said it felt a bit flat after Passions but lets be honest that was always going to be a tough act to follow. It was rare chance to see Buffy weaked. I take Claire's point about Buffy being ill but happen if one of the scoobies had it as badly as Buffy they would have got out of bed never mind trying to hunt :ponder:
Joyce's explanantion of why Buffy doesn't like hospitals and death of her cousin give us a quick glimps of Buffy's past. The fact that storyline involves children makes it far more :fear: for me! The flashbacks with Celia are I found scarey, this is added to when Buffy realises that the Kindestod killed Celia whlie she was they was another bitter blow as she still trying to deal with Jenny's death.
The scene with Angelus/Xander is important as we see Xander is still in love with Buffy, I felt sorry for him as I don't think she ever realised how much. Cordy finally pull him up on it:

Cordelia: Jealous?
Xander: Of Rogaine boy? (chuckles) I don't think so. (hands her the file) Here, take this to Giles, okay?
Cordelia: What about you?
Xander: I'm gonna stay here.
Cordelia: Oh, right. Your obsession with protecting Buffy. Have I told you how attractive that's not?
Xander: Cordelia, someone's gotta watch her back.
Cordelia: Yeah, well, I've seen you watch her back.
Xander: What is that supposed to mean?
Cordelia: Well, I was using the phrase 'watch her back' as a euphemism for 'looking at her butt.' You know, sort of a pun.
Xander: Oh! Right. (gets the insult) Hey!
Cordelia: Well, you do.
Xander: Jealous?
Cordelia: Fine. Watch *my* back. |
I can understand why she feels down she gave up a lot to be with Xander I don't think he realised what he had. If he doesn't want to watch her back I'd be more then happy to :naughty:
The thing the Kindestod does with it's eyes :fear: on the whole one of Buffy episodes the genuinely creep me out.
7/10
